Edit: Because what the hell fun is it doing boring shit that you can do in the real world anyway?

Well, I thought the game my friend described to me - which my roommate unappreciatively called "sim medieval" sounded quite interesting. Now the friend who suggested I play here - who prefers very low conflict games - is talking about quitting - and I'm seriously suggesting that the game be renamed to make clear that it's just yet another conflict-with-some-development game, of which there are legions, rather than a development-and-cooperation-with-possibility-of-conflict game, of which there seem to be far fewer.

Yeah, I decided I'd been rather tactless in my original phrasing. I didn't expect anyone to respond as fast as you did.

How's this for locks:

All locks are combination locks. There are six lock levels. Level 1 locks have just one digit, level 2 locks have two digits etc.
Level 1 lock takes one steel bar, level 2 takes two, level 3 four, level 4 eight, level 5 sixteen and level 6 thirty-two bars.
New skill - locksmithing, that is used to both make and pick locks. It can be taken six times (each time it allows you to unlock a higher level lock), and each level takes twice as much lp as the previous. Let's say that level 1 costs 10 000lp. So, to get level 6 locksmithing, you'd need to spend 630k worth of lp.
You can pick a lock manually by trying combinations, but for a level 6 lock there are a million possible combinations, so it's not very feasible with high-level locks.
Another way to pick a lock is to use your own locksmithing skill to guess a single digit. If you're picking a lock of same level as your locksmithing you have a 50% chance of guessing each digit, or a 12.5% chance of guessing them all. Even if you just get two digits, the lock is as good as picked because there are only ten possible combinations left. If the lock is of lower level than your locksmithing skill, your chances of guessing a digit double for each level of difference. If it's higher, they halve for each level of difference. Failing to guess a digit makes it impossible to try guessing that digit for one game day (8 hours).

That's basically the mechanics of it. I'll explain my reasoning later, as I need to run now. Expect an edit in a couple of hours.

Whats stopping a person from just beating the lock off, or tearing what its attached to.

What we have here is the possibility for a mmo where you can do about anything in a fantasy environment. If you don't like the fact people use conflict, a lot. Go play WoW, That will clearly cater to your development with a chance-of-conflict with no loss or punishment.

As it is, I don't think theft or robbery is an issue with large communities in this game. As bottleneck had people continually on and moving about forcing me to have to sneak around and try not to get spotted.

Actually maybe it is an issue, because I still robbed them, it was just far funner and more risky.

What we have here is a person that has multiple accounts and keeps making alts to annoy other people.

You're clearly not paying attention to what's being said.
All you have to do is stand next to a vault for 6 hours to get in and remove all heartfires, steel, wrought, iron , gear, etc, etc.
And if you fail it takes 5 minutes to try again.
What we have to do is spend our weekend playing this game, crafting everything we need and ask for features that were planned already but not implemented allowing people to abuse the game mechanics just to piss us off.

All we need is walls that take enough effort to take down, locks that take enough effort to pick and the inability to make alts every 5 minutes.
There's no punishment for thiefing other than say 3 hours worth of grinding lp to enter and take on claimed land.

JTG you're just trying to make yourself sound like a cool kid while obviously the game is lacking, not the community.

The only thing you do is whine about my complaining and praise whatever is wrong or exploitable.
It's an alpha. It needs complaining.

You are complaining about me pointing out you do nothing but complain. If Its an alpha then stop complaining. You don't need to cry all over the forums, If its an alpha.

Except that's not all it takes anymore.

Strength directly effects how long it takes to destroy an object.

You can not grind strength with a simple macro.

Also: Stand next to a wall for 6 hours, yeah, THAT'S ALL. NO BIGGY. Are you fucking kidding me? You have to sit by your computer watching your stamina and eating when necessary for SIX HOURS. Do you know how fucking boring that would get?
