Pk'ers / Griefer's

Thoughts on the further development of Haven & Hearth? Feel free to opine!

They know it well in their own minds (same people responding) I agree to an extent, however, these same folks may not want an advantage taken from them which obviously does make the game unbalanced. How many accounts do they have, how many alts do these people have? They may very well have an alt in your village just waiting to take advantage of the very fact in the first post I made.

I simply made a suggestion, with maybe's, and my god people hate any change that may lead to improving the game but takes an advantage from them.

The deck is stacked, most people are aware of it, noob or not, doesn't matter.

I simply said balance it to be more realistic if the developers decided it was needed....IF NOT I SAID I still like the game the way it is. OMG some people need to re-learn how to read.

If their intellect allows for the type of responses like this, it appears to me as negativism and trolling.

and john, stop using the word intellect, that word does not want to be associated with you anymore because you abuse it by thinking you become the one thats right and justified if you just say intellect.

its pathetic, please just stop and not make scene, you have embarrased yourself enough already.

There is of course an imbalance in the game due to the investment heavy character developement. This has been pointed out several times before and your second thought goes in the right direction. We need a combat system which gives groups even more advantages vs. single uber players. The first suggestion is however quite unbalanced and a much too harsh restriction on a sandbox game.
I highly doubt it btw that there are players who get alts into several towns and train them till they can murder someone. BUT: If someone really invests that much time into a char and into gaining the trust of a village then I say "Way to go" and he may assasinate the village from within. Would be a wonderful example how player made drama can work out in this game. In world 2 I have had to deal with quite a few people in our town who later turned against us and those were some of the most entertaining hours I had with this game.

Answering negative responses with negative responses (slights abut intelligence, accusations of trolling, etc) doesn't help. That stuff is best ignored.

Here's what I can salvage of actual argument:
johnsmith says:

1) killing people should involve more personal investment, to balance the cost of death, unless they already have a good reason, to make random killing less appealing.
Counter arguments are:
  • Killing people is currently inconvenient / impossible if they use walls properly.
    • But what constitutes "properly", and where are they supposed to learn this?
Maybe a high-end versus new player content problem?
    • Potjeh says an organized group could get in, Avu says an organized group is unwieldy;
these are probably off-topic for the sake of your counter arguments, johnmsith
  • "Good Reason" is pretty hard to define, and defining it makes the game less of a sandbox.
    • (Personally, I'd argue that ranging scents show that
de facto sanctioning of "go kill that guy for doing x" can sometimes enhance the sandbox.)
  • The root issue of making killing people require investment hasn't really been touched.
    • One could argue that the stats / LP / equipment investment needed to kill folks is investment enough.
Then it becomes an issue of balance; is it too easy to be able to kill people, or too hard to defend oneself? These are your angles of attack, johnsmith.

2) Multiple people should be able to overpower a single person.
There's that whole other thread I think burningham posted on this; I think no one disagrees that this should be possible, it's more a matter of how many people versus how strong a single person. Everyone seems to agree that combat is currently pretty unbalanced, at least.

So there: discuss.

There's nothing more to discuss though...? This thread has played itself out.

InfamousLlama,

Very good, I wish I were as articulate. I also must concede the fact that my first point is difficult to digest for a sandbox game. Point number two I was unaware of the thread till it was posted here, that thread was kind of Loooooong and boring, lol, but did make the same point that everyone agrees on....hopefully.

I will also apologize for making any comments that anyone may have taken offense to.

Is anyone aware of a new world being created in order to implement this new combat system? and when? if any.
