Well of course it should be possible to reforest an area quickly if you're doing it manually, I'm talking about natural recovery.

That's why i envision it as a kind-of authority for personal claim. It would be another bar showing up in client, basically working the same as village authority does (refilled through owners activity).

To address the problem with extreme claim ratios (eg. placing a 5*2000 tile claims) which is something Loftar mentioned somehere is on his todo-list to stop from being misused: the authority bar capacity could be a function of claimed area [size_x*size_y*somefactor] while authority drainage being modeld as a function of circumference [(size_x+size_y)*2*someotherfactor].

So you gain LP through whatever you do to keep your bar filled, bigger claims would need more activity (while providing a bigger buffer).

Should the bar run out the following happens:

  • Should the claim be already only 1 tile the stake goes *poof*
  • Claim shrinks one row/column of tiles on the side which is farest away from stake
  • maximum authority and drainage factor are adjusted to new claim dimensions
  • authority is refilled with some amount relative to how many tiles are declaimed [tiles_freed*somethirdfactor]

Surely, the downside compared to current status-quo would be that resource claims held by inactive alts would cease to exist.
Not a bad idea if you ask me, but In case J&L would like to keep a mechanic to claim resource spots they could enable multiple claims per avatar.

Other option could be to being able to forcefully remove claim stakes using a battering ram, while removing the ability to village-claim remove them.
But i like the idea of the claim decaying by itself better, since it would look more natural.

Clearcuts should turn into deserts and the inner grids should slowly decay into a lifeless (but with lots of HQ sand!) wasteland that pushes everyone into the few remaining livable area's until the server ends in a huge fight for the last few trees that are out there.
