In the time it would take to get those skills, you should be able to build a superfortress of brickwalls and also have a character skilled enough to kill thieves/vandals.

Starting a new map and being able to carry cartloads of items over on alts is like being a newbie just starting out on the current map and having the ability to throw down a bricked fortress that is fully stocked with equipment and supplies.

Nope. A griefer can trash anyone he likes until his victims get yeomanry, and can continue to make a massive PITA of himself until they get enough LP for a large claim. By that time, some other griefer will doubtless have the black skills required to continue the fun.

@ jorb: I believe it was Starchaser who suggested village 'arks'. Objects with a limited amount of storage space that each settlement gets to put their things into to be carried over to the next map. Tie the ark to a personal or village totem so only the owner of that claim/kin/village members can access the ark. If you give them to us just before the switch over, thieves won't really be able to bitch about not being able to access them.

Once we arrive in the New World, you could randomly locate these arks on the map and have the owner(s) spawn near it. : )

Edit: They should probably be one way storage in the new world; IE you can take out but you can't put back in. Otherwise people would be using them as thief-proof-storage.

I have to say, I really hope I'll be able to bring my settlement's hundred steel bars on the map wipe. I mean, we've worked hard making our in-game wealth, and we've lost a lot of it, but what we have left is treasured. I really hope we'll be able to carry over at least some of our material goods. The idea of losing most of our goods would be worse than a character wipe for some of us. My settlement is not nearly as powerful as some because we don't focus on grinding. We've focused on making tradeable goods, even if we get very little LP from it. Now it looks like our work will be lost while the characters who've done nothing but grind will be rewarded.

I hope that if we lose all of our wealth, we will also lose our characters. Either way, Jorb's evening out the playing field. He's just doing so in different ways.

I hope that he moves away from communism and lets us keep our material goods in the next world. We've worked hard for them-why force us to lose it all?

EDIT: Ferinex, you beat me to the post, and I think that idea is awesome. My post is still valid, though.

I feel quite a lot of sympathy for you guys and hope you get to take a lot of steel with you, however I would question the statement that grinding on stats is any different from grinding on crucibles in anything other than the payoff.

Yeah, I suppose grinding on crucibles is really the same thing.

A big part of our goal was to trade with the steel, that's why I like having such a wealth of precious metals. I feel like I can hire people, buy goods, etc, even if you only can outfit yourself so much... I won't be able to do any of that for a long time after this map wipe if I lose all of my steel.

Yeah, adding resources to the economy is more valuable to more players than adding stats to your character, so I guess that's a valid point.

Looks like your trading pre-wipe for post-wipe favors plan is probably going to pay off then

Yeah, that was a good idea. We're hoping we don't need to use it too much, and can carry much of our wealth over, though.

If it were just one full inventory per player, I'd be cool with that, but people will obviously be bringing over their entire alt vault full of steel and silk, which I'm not entirely cool with. We'll see what we'll do about that.

Good to hear. I hadn't even thought of that problem. I'd vastly prefer to enter the world with zero inventory or some fixed inventory over having massive alt vaults come along with us.

if you hadnt ignored me you might have seen my post in the other thread warning of this very problem! alas
