So we have a repeat of the conclusion to the navigation thread, wherein apparently you expect me to have psychic insight into the meaning behind your words.

For the record, decay for the sake of decay is a bad thing. Decay as an obstacle to be overcome when building a superior version of something is a legitimate mechanic for suppressing the completion of the something by those putting in insufficient effort.

It's reasonable to dig somewhere and end up finding clay. A problem with this idea is that clay is a very heavily needed resource, and not having easy access (I assume you do) to a clay pit would be horrible.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clay
From a brief read through of that (not really thorough) It appears to me that clay is NOT a material that exists everywhere, but is quite common... So maybe a compromise would be to get rid of naturally formed clay pits (or only form a small number of them) and allow players to build clay pits on areas that supply clay (construction of a pit takes effort, but few or zero resources).

Currently I'm in lake-town. We don't have an in-town clay put, however there's a clay pit a short walk away.

You are very close to your claypit. When we were making our brick wall at Pine Valley, we would go to the Laketown claypits and fill up chests with clay.

i kind of have a love/hate relationship with the idea of clay only coming from clay pits

See it's all relative. We're very close compared to PV, but not nearly as close as Clayshire was to theirs.
Was the laketown claypits really the closest to you? or was it really just the closest that happened to be already linked up with roads?
Regardless, you got the job done, and it required some journeying which provides the opportunity for interaction with the broader community, which is a good thing neh?

You have a mild walk, we had a journey that was only reasonable because of the massive amount of clay we needed for the walls. It would be horrible if every time we needed clay we had to make that journey. Yours is the closest I believe.
