Here's what I'd like to see:
-Varied foliage
-Archepeligos
-A blockade function with ships. To station them there and fire if an opposing ship tries to leave.
-Varied sizes of ships. Perferably like 6-7.
-More produce
-Large scale fishing using nets. Maybe a possiblility to drag up sunken remains. Say a ship was destroyed in a blockade and it had a bunch of metal. It could be dredged up later if someone rememebered the spot
-More clothes, even if it's just aesthetic.
-A dye function, that'd require plants from far off lands. Clothes would always start white, or brown if made from wool or linen repectivly.
-Ocean currency, such as dubloons. These could be sought after since they'd be gold, and give people a reason to hunt pirates.
-A way to designate what type of city you want to build. This could unlock certain buildings. i.e. Port Cities, versus a Capital.
-Designatable Capitals/States/Regions owned by governments
-Taxes in such regions
-Desginated buildings for actions, such as Saw Mills, and Refining Plants.
-Beds for Christ sake!
-Varied hair colors/types. Perferably more than 5.
-Larger houses with furniture. They could be used to show the wealth of the person, and used as a sink for coins.

Isn't each tile one meter across? That places the current landmass at 25 km^2, or about 9.65 square miles. According to Wikipedia, this is almost equal to the entire land area of Tuvalu, or the city of Compton, California.

I'd think the continent size that works to be the most enjoyable would be somewhat dependent on the distribution density of resources.

The current map is still pretty big, I think its fine for a continent, regardless of the relative size.

Of course they would all vary in size though.

But visibility is from 1-3 mile (more if on a mountain or cliff, less in a forest)
So if we call it 2 miles, then the 20 or so tiles are 1/10 of a mile each...or 176 yards. This also changes bow range from absurdly short (yay! a 10 yard shot!) to absurdly long, but it makes the continent 500 miles across. Thats a fair-sized island.

Tiles are 1 square meter if we're to believe the claim interface. 500 square miles is an area equivalent to that of Afghanistan, larger than the Balkans, and smaller than Madagascar. Considering the server supposedly can hold about 300 characters in-game at a time, we'd have to suspend disbelief regarding population density. Why yes, I am being pedantic.

Since we know things like geology points will be limited resources in the new world, discussing the size of continents without regarding the distribution of these resources seems a bit pointless.

must also consider that we don't know how new terrain in mapgen will work, there may be large impassable or unusable areas (mountains, swamps, seas)

if continents were to be implemented, they wouldn't be squares like the current map

Thats why I brought up the part about continents varying in size.
They might have roughly the same area, but the shapes will be different. There could even be points on the land that are thin enough to make canals.

It would be nice if maybe there were points on some of the mountains that could be excavated to make a pass through it, the pass would have to be repaired every once in a while, or it might cave in.

Passes aren't made, they are simply ways that are easier to get through a mountain then climbing over it with a wagon full of stuff. (it'd be very hard to pull a cart over a mountain....I have enough trouble hiking over one, makes for a fun vacation though...)
