Every week 1 spot per super grid should be chosen, it should be at least X distance from any claim, any cabin, hearth or village. A stone pillar is created at this point.
When a character is created it is spawned at one of these pillars at random. A new adventure menu contains "Random Pillar" and "Go to dream pillar", Random pillar spawns you at one of the pillars at random, it can be used 5 times and only for the first 24 hours of a characters existence.
Dream Pillars: For 1 dream and a few branches a player without any skills can create a dream pillar that lasts for 10 hours, when you build one you assign a unique name to it. Any character that has existed for less than 24 hours can use the "Go to dream pillar" option once, when they do they are prompted for the name of the dream pillar they want to port to.

This system moves the damage around while also allowing groups of friends or groups that recruit from forums to group up properly. Combined with a proper mechanic for allowing towns to set areas where newbies can spawn this could fix most of the problem.

firemage wrote:As for the "newbies arre locusts"-problem: There is already somewhere a thread regarding this problem. Basically it's because newbies need lots of wood in the beginning and can't replant it themselves. And WHEN you can replant trees you usually don't need that much anymore. So newbies should be able to replant trees from the start!

or, as has been repeated ad nauseum, just let the shit q10 trees grow back

the current treeplanting process is fine with this
