And create more clothes, weapons and buildings ^^.

1 would remove the reason this game exists (freedom etc.)
2. Would be okay.

But there shouldn't be anything like "modes"...
The point of the game is freedom. I should be free to kill peaceful people.

Ya thats true, but the creatures will be a reason to stop killing people :P, goblin tribe could be around a fire and when you kill them you take a loot or something like that. Magics could be awesome for this game too. FIREBALL!!

Most of these suggestions are terrible.

+1 for bridges and layers above mine layers though.

I often find I am exploring and come upon a settlement which looks active but I have no way of communicating with the owner besides dropping rune stones at their front door which I don't know if people actually read.

It would be nice if there were some type of mailbox you could build outside your settlement. People walking by could leave messages inside proposing trades alliances ect. This would be a good way to communicate without the threat of actually having to talk to a real person. We already have pen, ink, and parchment items. Since all are pretty much worthless right now it would give some value to these items. The mailbox could just be described in code as something similar to a crafting station that only accepts parchments.

Edit: The only problem would be that people could steal all the messages out of your mailbox, maybe if it left a scent even when the mailbox is not on your personal claim? (This may not be possible) Than the person could hunt down who was stealing all their mail.

Yeah mailboxes are a decent idea, but have been suggested many times before. Either that or a box/crate where trespass is always allowed, but theft permissions aren't. This would allow a crate and parchment to be used in such a way (as the only reason it can't be at this point is the fact that people would be forced to leave scents just to put a message in a mailbox). Definitely some ways to manage permissions more dynamically would be a good thing (and some sort of limitation to personal claim sizes as well, as I don't see how a single personal claim over entire mountains and similar situations were ever thought to be reasonable; especially since it's practically impossible to do anything about such claims, for the relative ease to acquire them).

You could grief the shit out of people doing that, though. I get all bitchy when my village members have to Private chat me on their alts that are kin'd but not in village, and the PC channels kick off tabs from other chats (maybe my fault for using the classic chat format though). Also wouldn't that allow users to check if memorized hearthlings are online or not for raids and whatnot. I mean move in, memorize via claim, then send a bunch of messages randomly to check if the character is ever online (or spam it before a raid or whatever other shenanigans that goes on).
