But think of all the cool ways you could integrate modern brands into the game! Like Microsoft Loincloth, or beer that's lower than q10 being renamed to Bud Lite.

Hm...

It's silly, but what if you have two servers: regular, and pay. There is no difference, except that you must pay ten dollars a character for the pay server.

Why on earth would anyone pay ten dollars to create a character there?

Because, everyone else there also paid ten dollars. It would be, inherently, a much smaller population with more resources, and since there would be no throw-away alt armies, griefers would virtually disappear, especially since there would be more targets available for free on the free server.

I repeat that there would be no difference outside of the emergent one; both would get the same updates at the same time; both would have worlds that are virtually identical, at least when starting out.

I'm not saying that's a good idea, but it is probably the least obnoxious way to get money out of this other than donations.
Surprise.

I see. But are you assuming the devs aren't going to one day solve the griefing problem using other ways?
I don't think people would mind if the paid server had more content but as long as both servers had the same game mechanics and absolutely necessary features.

Peter, that...might...actually work. totally the same, just with less population and less grief. But what about the Supply and Demand. Less people means higher supply and less demand (by which i mean relative to our already high supply and low demand). Still i think with a little work, this might actually work.

Since supply is a function of the time thrown at getting resources i don't see a difference there, except that resources are more likely to be unclaimed.

I wouldn't go for 'character' there, more 'account'. Else getting permadeathed would cost you RL money and the incentives for grievers would be

good point, how about make it to where you pay for character slots, so if you get killed, the slot is simply empty, and still yours.
