Sandbox by definition does not mean entirely boundless.

Ever wondered why people don't have games which allow you to shape the entire landscape flawlessly down to mountains and landmass? Griefing is one, the second is that it's impossible to accomplish this.
I can deal with sandboxes having certain boundaries that you don't cross, and I can deal with them having impossibilities, you can't literally hit or attack the ground in this game or kill the water but you aren't complaining about that.

Regardless of all that I never once said it would be impossible for people to totally ruin sanctuaries and plough them out, what I did suggest is making that very hard, which puts people off the thought of chopping the forests.

Forests sanctuary is to prevent complete resource collapse

Everyone wants resources

Resources will dwindle continually.

Everyone does not like resources dwindling completely.

Options to chop down the last tree could be done by anyone, thus a sanctuary to repel most people except complete douches.

You are given a tree.

Everyone wants this tree, no-one will chop down the tree because it is regrowing. Someone tries chopping down the tree, everyone starts fighting over it. Nobody wins.
I will steal all of the RuneStones in the land, if your stone has gone missing in the night then I'm already hauling it.

If it's just about preventing global resource collapse and nothing else, the infinite map will fix that. Infinite map means infinite resources, after all.
