Glancing the Apples & Oranges forum, yes you are the only one.

That, I like. I would be just as glad to get a Steel Goondar as a Steel 12thbayan Dollar as a Steel Laketown Dubloon as an anonymous Steel Coin.

The other matter is the "trade screen" that some people seem to have a problem with.

I see it like this; if you wanted to make a small transaction with someone, going up to them and just handing over a cast iron coin for a loaf of bread with a simple, clear interface makes sense. And, if you want to pickpocket the bread merchant or offer a few bars of metal for several baskets of bread, then that's fine too, and there doesn't need to be an enforced trade interface for those situations.

I frankly don't see how having trade always involve dropping things on the ground or in a basket is superior to an interface.
Surprise.

I think it's mostly to do with people lacking faith in iron as currency. I'm trying to take nothing but iron as payment in my trades because of this. However, one guy doing this is insufficient to make people think that their iron will always be worth something. If a couple of more people would join me, I'm sure we could establish iron as universally accepted currency, and acceptance of coins would flow from that.

Anyway, my point is that cash economy isn't something that devs can impose unto us. We need to make it happen on our own.

One to one. They are both 1/100th of a steel bar. They just have different names.

i don't use coins because i never bothered to make a coinpress and they haven't made a coinpurse or some other efficient method of carrying coins

The usual purpose of trade screens is to provide some measure of assurance that you will get the goods you expect - the other party won't simply grab what you gave them and :lo. They are very important in games without PK. Here - well, a cheat has some risk of being PK'd, or knocked out and robbed - but it's not all that large a risk, realistically.

What if you make them vouchers and hand them out? Tag them by character name-town allegiance.

"1 cast iron coin minted by Wrought Iron Voucher of Goondar"
"1 cast iron coin minted by Bear Banger Voucher of Goondar"
"1 cast iron coin minted by Silk Thread Voucher of Goondar"

I don't know what the point of that would be, versus carrying the wrought/silk/etc, though.

Actually Colbear, if those could only be printed by say, the chieftain/lawspeaker. They could sell them to adventures for goods that the town needs, and then the person can cash them in later. Almost like bonds.
