No permadeath - more action

Thoughts on the further development of Haven & Hearth? Feel free to opine!

I'm new to the game, just built my first house, but I died to some high level griefer and I don't want to invest any more time into HnH. Anyways, thought I'd share my noob oppinion ^^

The idea of permadeath sounded cool when I first started playing HnH, because it's unique, but in reality its a shitty concept imo. Permadeath stopped me from socializing with anyone in-game and made me scared to try out the combat system. The one time I did talk to someone, he killed me. It's sad because what I enjoy about the game is the crafting system and planning out what I am going to do next. I was really starting to get into the game too! Buuuuut yeah now I'm dead and the game doesn't have enough to do for me to want to spend another week getting all of my skills back when I'll likely just get killed again.

I'm you sure you get a lot of death-rage-qq-quitters on the forums. Hopefully I don't sound like that ^^ Having permadeath is a cool little niche, but I strongly feel that HnH would be a better game without it, and the fact that this forum thread exists tells me it's not just me that feels this way.

Yep, happened to my wife and I today as well. Brought 3 of our friends in from Wurm to play along, and we were really enjoying this game for the last week. Some unknown jerk who likes to get his psychopathic tendancies out in video games came alone and killed me when I was AFK, and stalked my wife until she just logged out and killed her as well. Ruined our game experience.

Your game sucks. Totally imbalanced. 10,000's of hard earned LP lost. What a waste fo time. I thought I found a fun little game that we could relax in with friends and family, but it took one griefer to ruin it all. I guess you prefer to cater towards criminal types than decent minded people. Must be a European thing.

Really, the only reason permadeath is an issue is because of the rampant PKers sticking it to the new players for no reason other than the fact that they can. Suggestion: Limit the ability to deal HHP damage to players with under 50% of your total LP. And by this, I mean completely remove. I don't think this would be much of an issue, as players could then romp on people /relatively/ close to their LP totals, but as is the system just makes it impossible for new players to join in on the fun without being fenced in 100% of the time for several months.

High level players would still be able to bop noobs silly if they wandered onto their land, but it would be no lasting damage for those who are just out to ruin the game for others.

Yeah, us Europeans. All alike. Wait... isn't Wurm also a game made by Swedes?

Sorry you got your expectations wrong. The game aims to be hardcore, and if you don't like that then it isn't for you, nor will it ever be. It can be a nice place to relax, but only after you've gotten your security straight. I can recommend Avu's classic thread on the subject. If you've only played for a week then you haven't really lost much, although it obviously doesn't feel that way. In a world without villainy there can be no heroes, and if life and liberty are never threatened then they cannot be defended either.

No need to take it out on me. :)

ive never read or heard of such a world existing yet
if it actually existed even in virtual worlds, im pretty sure more than half employees at MMO management and custom support departments would lose their jobs and many developers'd go happy!

@sfbmod and some others
here is a link DatOneGuy gave us on IRC the other day, i think you need to check it out!
It's okay to not like things
and guess what, im writing this after i got raided myself ;)

Yep, I'll issue you and most other Europeans an apology. The area seemed to have more Russian and European types nearby so my butt hurt emotions just wanted to take it out on that stereotype.

Turned out to be an American who was butt hurt from others chopping trees down in his village's hunting area. He figured we were one of the people harrasing him so just started killing me and all my friends on sight. Somehow, after 3 or so more characters lost (and losing all of my stats and LP) he finally talked and we ironed things out.

My wife's still frustrated and doesn't want to return to the game over it still, but my other friends and I are going to give it (this game and these warring villages) another chance. At least this guy didn't raze all of my work to the ground like that last guys.

I'd like to submit for my two cents on this topic you guys consider adding some sort of "noobie" protection method like Wurm and other games? Maybe something like limiting the ability to murder people under a certain LP or stat total or average.

Hardcore is cool and all, but that's what really destroyed UO for a lot of people. Trolls camp new players just because they could, making it impossible for new people to join much less enjoy the game long term. Even UO eventually put in balances to prevent that.

Thanks for the vent. No hard feelings.
