Books

Thoughts on the further development of Haven & Hearth? Feel free to opine!

@ dra6o0n, could always be a leather tome, Having a leather tome holding 9 sheets of leather doesnt seem too unrealistic :),

On that note i've got an idea along the same line as maps:

- Village Map,
Can copy a region map to a special container, The map can then be viewed & updated by multiple people but can be stolen, could be used by people who are lost, visiting or need information on surrounding areas.

This deserves a bump :)

I absolutely love this idea and it needs to be in 100%. I'm new to the game and don't know much about where the development is at but I know I would use a feature that allows book writing for journal, trades and anything else.

books would be pretty sweet yea. especially for maps (but who uses those?)

honestly though all you really need is a seedbag-like container that holds parchment. none of this overly complicated stuff

if you did have three tpes of books, such as a journal, a sealed book, and a wyrd book, might i suggest calling the wyrd book a Tome? it would probalby help avoid confusion.

i like the ideas of making book. but like jackard said, a seedbag type item for parchement and maps would be the simplest apporoach. we don't have the wyrd system yet, so Tomes or wyrd books arn't important.

Nice to see this thread is still alive. :D

It's not that complicated :P
But OK something like this I guess: http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/9274/bookbinding4.png, no waxed thread or anything, make a bookbinder, right click the book, choose edit to put parchments in and there's a Seal button if you want to lock the book or you can keep it open, and select read to read :)

or just make a single page working as an ingame-newspaper

That would be nice for my village, we have people from a lot of different time zones so it would be good to have a newspaper that summed up all of the events of the day/week for people that weren't there. :)

If that Read button has you read the pages in order then it would make mapbooks difficult to understand

a simple container for parchment also wouldn't take much for them to add

Well it would look something like this if you chose to read:

but you can still open the binder and select a individual map you want to look at, same with parchments, so it would work like you want too.

I want the feel of reading a book, the way you describe it sounds like it would just be a bag of papers and you have open every page one by one to read.

oh i like the look of yours but lets face it this is a pretty minor issue that they may never get around to

my suggestion wouldnt take much for them to implement, would you rather have that or nothing?

Well whatever, as long as we get readable books I'm happy(even more happy if they follow my design :P) and Jorb already made the art for books so maybe they know how they want it done.
