This removes any challenge in pve I think

Does any existence of traps completely invalidate active hunting?

I can think of several implementations that would make hunting still a viable and desirable thing to do, can't you?

Probably, but this '3 branches, a piece of string and a piece of meat to catch foxes or boars' just seems too easy.
With my little 50 MM I can easily kill both those animals now, so to me it wouldnt make a difference probably, but I dont know how good it will be for gameplay if fresh chars can do it as well.

stop being so literal and either suggest better ideas (i.e. materials necessary for a trap) or shut it

granted, perhaps trapping should be limited to rabbits and maybe foxes, but really, the main benefit to actively hunting is the LP gain. with trapping you'd only be getting resources.

Bear and fox traps already do exist... you just need a few fences with 2 openings :3

Yes, but we don't need TWO win-buttons.

I like the idea of making a Deadfall trap. For those who don't know what a Deadfall trap is, it's a basically a few sticks holding up a very heavy piece of rock with some bait applied to a trigger stick. When your critter nibbles on the bait stick, it causes the rock to fall on top of it, crushing it to death.

Materials for the Deadfall trap would include a boulder and some branches and some kind of bait for whatever it is you're trying to catch.

Yet another trap suggestion

Postby Bobusx » Thu May 27, 2010 7:29 pm

I'm not too sure if this idea has been discussed yet or not, but I thought it was a good idea and I would say it anyways. So, if you're like me and you happen to be strolling through your forests looking for resources to use and you see an ugly mess of sign posts from players trapping animals, you say to yourself "Oh great theres another one, better clear up some inventory space to get rid of it. Well, why not make that exploit not possible, and instead give the players the option to craft actual traps. we could start off by making small traps for foxes and then make bigger traps for bears and deer. Once an animal steps on the trap, it would take X amount of damage ranging from the traps quality times your survival skill and would be stuck in the ground for X amount of time giving players the ability to cleanly trap their game, it should also help out with lower level players, since now they can trap something and try to kill it and if they fail run away before the animal gets free. What do you think?
