Yikes, seems like a popular idea. I have no idea how that "franken-thread" (lol!) escaped my search efforts though ... thanks for the link

This, however, is horribly unsightly. Who wants a bunch of "work in progress" construction signs littering one's property?

What I propose is to have an actual "building" or piece of furniture that would act as a storage pile, but without a "build" option, and appropriate sprites for whatever you're storing. I'd say it should have some kind of cap (200?) for how much you can store in one pile, but I haven't given it too much thought yet.

Or perhaps there could be some sort of actual, bona-fide building called a "lumber rack" that once built would hold a large amount of blocks, planks, etc. using the same interface as the "building" procedure. That would be a little more tidy and visually appealing than just a big ol' pile of blocks.

Lemme know what you all think

Perhaps a better solution would be to use CUPBOARDS for storage like they were meant to be used for as opposed to taking advantage of such things for storage purposes.

You know what I propose? To set a timer on Construction spots. 24 hours would be more then reasonable Me Thinks. This will also fix the fact of people taking advantage of the building signs for storage purposes.

A new storage thing that stores only lumber and is slightly bigger then a chest/requires minimum amount of supplies to build and can't be moved once filled might be a good idea.

So let me get this straight having to store wooden fucking boards and blocks in a cupboard is ok from a realistic standpoint but a sign that basically lacks graphics and that is it is a completely horrendous thing to have as storage. Masochists.

I went to a construction materials store the other day, and they kept all their cement, bricks and rebar nets in cupboards.

Stockpiles

Postby Teh_Az » Sat May 08, 2010 12:34 am

I understand there's a topic about this somewhere, I just can\t find it.

I just had this idea while i was in a moment of idle clarity. concerning the use of stockpiles, we all know that we use unbuilt construction signs to store construction materials. The problem is, the larger the amount you need to keep, the wider the space you need to use up. Having an invisible wall of unbuilt logcabins really isn't such a beautiful and roleplaying thing. So, why don't we make buildable objects that act like these construction signs? They would cost a fair amount of stone to keep the contents from decay, are able to store basic raw materials, and function distinct from regular containers. They would have plausible limits though, and varying sprite appearances that represent each stockpile's contents for roleplaying effect. I'm thinking a stockpile the size of a logcabin could hold five hundred or so materials.

Here is a list of the materials we could plausibly store in these stockpiles;
Wood Blocks and Boards, of course
Straw, for the love of God
Stone? not really that integral
Metal Bars, for convenience--ore?
and of course, Branches

I have a similar idea concerning vegetables called the Vegetable Bin, but I don't know if people are receptive to it yet. do let me know though.
