My character drowned, please change swimming!

Jackards point is good. You should start with swimming it and if your wearing a metal plate then of course your not going to be swimming as far as a guy in just rangers pants and shirt.
My motions are swift as a eagle, on my worst day I am still Lethal. No challenge, only start me when you learn the ripples of a butterflies heartbeat.

Make swimming less lethal

Postby MightyAgrippa » Thu Feb 18, 2010 7:23 pm

Until the server is stable and the code is bulletproof, please take the fangs out of swimming. It's killed more hearthlings than starvation and Wayneville combined. And at least 90% of those deaths aren't fair "oops, I went farther than I should have" deaths. They're "oops, my character hopped out of the boat in the wrong direction" or "oops, the game turned on swimming and dumped me in the river" deaths.

You could make moving in the water cost more stamina and staying in place cost none, but drastically slow stamina regeneration. When you run out of stamina in the water, you have to float there for a while and regain some to dogpaddle back to shore at a crawl. Like what happens if you hit 0% stamina on land but significantly slower.

Make sure combat works against swimming characters, add a suicide button that isn't "buy swimming" if you're concerned about that function, and let us swim in peace.

Why does such a low reward task have such a high risk to begin with?

Agreed. Swiming being deadly was a meaningful game mechanics before boats. Now it's just an extremely sadistic annoyance that, at best, serves to increase the learning curve and weed out the weak of heart.

No, make it more lethal. Make it suck people in with the sucking power of twelve hungry whores combined. Or three Nao's.

We need more ways to die anyways, so why not make it even deadlier instead?

Make it so we randomly get dragged into the depths from the shallow water.

I'm all for making swimming less deadly. So long as we get DF style carp.

make swimming just drop you out ko'd on the shore if you don't have enough stamina

or make swimming not lethal at all but make walking lethal, bring back 100 hhp thorns but make them go through shoes
