I see many people complains about bots and alts. It seems like there is a common agreement, that bots and alts are always bad. But there are more points of view.
I think that because of MMORPGs like WoW people get used to playing with one character only and grind. Some people forgotten, that there are plenty of RPGs where player have control over a team of characters. For me crafting, farming and skilling in HnH was always more like The Sims. In my opinion, there should be one client for all players, but with some bots integrated with it. Walking, work in the field, drinking, digging, tree chopping - should be automated. It's true, that incentives to boting should be eliminated, but don't do it by making bots impractical and in the same time leaving in game the unthinking repetitive actions like tree chopping (it takes time to chop many trees, but player needs just to sit and click a tree once for some period - there are bots for it and they should stay in game).
Sandboxes are not for grind. Casual brainless MMORPGs are for grind. Sandboxes are real MMORPGs with real role playing. They should be focused on creating society, politics, diplomacy, war, trade, decorating a world, coming up with things.
Moders have too much power in HnH for now. The biggest problem is that one can make some mod that noone come up with, and use it against others. Like the mod for collecting pearl mussels. People were using it as a universal currency (nobody was listening when I was proposing coins instead of pearls). Inflation of pearls wasn't a real problem. 100 pearls per week? Pff, just stop buying it. The real problem was that for some time many people didn't have access to the bot.
Is there any possibility to efficiently ban all mods? If there is, make good vanilla with many ender-like features integrated and leave no possibility for mods.
About army of alts. I think that there should be no way to disappear completely. Character should just go to sleep and it should need to have food around if you want to leave it logged out for many days. Otherwise it will die from starvation. I think alts are good thing, but you should have ressources to maintain them. Also, there should be possibility to steal from logged out character. People are using them instead of boxes (i don't play for quite some time, so i don't know if anything changed).
In Salem there was a construction that was automatically attacking enemies. I would like to have dogs and train them for fight in HnH.
As some poeple noticed, there are problems with up/down mobility in the world of HnH. Mayby there should be some limit for stats? But I have better idea. Precisely I have two ideas. There are two big changes that in my opinion would make more people play the game and more of them to stay without ragequiting.
1. Create neutral city like in Salem. But bigger and with many things to do for player. If there would be a casual part of HnH then many more people will play. Once I watched a Let's Play from Salem. The player was new, and after about half an hour of playing, he said "I see this game is just for crafting and there is no fight at all".
HnH and Salem are too confusing for many players and they got bad first impression because of this. Let's give them something besides hardcore part. Neutral city will be a place for some time of playing at the beggining after creation of a new account and it could be for something like LARPS. If you are interested, I would explain what I exactly mean.
2. Implement children raising in game. Characters will grow up and get old. Player will play a family. For now we have inheritors, but it will be better if they will be just in game for all the time. Not only after death of our character. Family system will be good for alts and for sharing things and alts with other players. I could write more about this.
These two things would make game more fair for new characters, because they will not be at the mercy of players who started at the beggining of the world. There will be a safe zone (but with no safe storage or somethnig like this) and every player will have many characters dying and emerging in natural cycle so death of one character will not be so painful (less experienced players aren't using alts for now) and nobody will be unbeatable forever if he don't play and raise inheritors.
Also I think it will be kinda cool if there will be something like ice age slowly making world unable to live up to the point where everybody dies. Wipe. Then the ice is retreating and uncovering a map part by part and new world begins.

Scheming on ways to fuck over your enemies should take any free time.
