Improved Dream Catcher

Postby Brackwell » Sat Jul 31, 2010 4:51 am

The way it stands you need to have another container to store all the dreams you collect from a Dream Catcher. How about making the Dream Catcher more efficient and make it a container all in itself that can only hold dreams and every tick it fills itself with dreams?

Perhaps the Dream Catcher can have a 3x6 inventory?

What do you need so many dreams for? The village idol only requires like 10 dreams and thats the item that requires the most. Just make multiple catchers to get them if its that bad.

We dont need the catchers improved until there are more uses for the dreams

More uses, you say?
I`ve got a idea now. Rings and necklaces give us precious attributes. But how those pieces of gold and silver can do it? Sure, it`s magic!
At first, every accessory item will reguire 10 dreams when you craft it. Second - jeweler can use dreams to randomly increase one stat of ring and decrease other. Thus aBD! will become more useful.

Its just too easy to mass dreams with an improved dreamcatcher and make a shitload of low Q rings and boost one way up high for phr33.
Even with the current dreamcatcher its easy to mass dreams, big no for the jewelry and I dont see need for better dreamcatchers.

No thanks to all of that, dream catchers are fast enough as is.

It'd be nice if they had quality though, that effects aBD quality, that effects the quality of some things that require it, such as Dowsing Rods and Wells

Won't happen, because else we quickly would have insane quality water -> insane trees.

Well quality can be softcapped by other stuff if anything so it's not a problem.

A dreamcatcher that gives 6 dreams at once would be perfect for long distance wagon travel. 1 dream for hearth, 5 for claim (or was it 4?).

When I started playing, I built one dream catcher and one crate to store the dreams in. I built a second dream catcher for minor convenience. The crate only got about half full before I realized that I didn't need those dreams, so I stopped bothering to harvest them. I used up what was in the crate for a land claim or two and that's about it. Two dream catchers sitting in my settlement rarely touched.

I can't imagine anyone else uses the dreams that much... If they could hold so many dreams, you'd only ever need to build one and then you'd be set for life - never to build another or spend a second waiting for a new dream to be caught. And if you only need this one "be all and end all" dream catcher, what's the point? It might as well just be bundled up with some other item, such as all buildings having a built-in dream catcher (at the expense of needing that branch and string added to the construction, or perhaps a few more strings). At least with the oven there's a reason to build another in case you want to bake more than 4 things at once. And with the kiln, having that massive amount of bricks and glass doesn't really last long, so you might even want another one of those (since you probably wouldn't be building a dozen jars a day). This single Dream Captor™ would just be a bit too much, I think... and just not really worth it considering dreams are used so infrequently.
Dreams need more uses first; ones that wouldn't be abused as easily as Thijssnl and Granger predict.

I think catchers as they are now are ok as-is.
Just build about 10 of them and you're set (even when you're LS actively building a TP network).

What would be fun if the idea mentioned a while ago that you only harvest terrible nightmares while you have scents active on you could be implemented.
