New types of buildings

Thoughts on the further development of Haven & Hearth? Feel free to opine!

New types of buildings

Postby Paladir » Sat Jul 31, 2010 5:36 am

I was eating lunch earlier today and I thought of quite a few buildings that Haven and Hearth could have, so here they are.
HOUSES
There should probably be more types of buildings for players living on different types of terrain.
-Sod house
--It would be 4x4 squares and to build it you would need 200 soil and 4-16 boards, it would be a good way for players living on a Heath/Moor/Grassland to build a house since they wouldn't have many trees.
-Clay house
--It would be 5x5 squares and take 150-250 of any type of clay and 8-16 blocks of wood, its a good way for players to live on a mudflat or on one of the previously mentioned terrain types near water.
FORTRESSES
Yeah, fortresses, this is really keeps for building a castle, but here are my ideas
-Wooden keep
--It would be 10x10 squares, have 2 floors and take 500 blocks of wood and 250 boards to build.
-Stone keep
--12x12 squares, 2 floors, and take 5000 stone, 80 boards, 360 blocks of wood, and 5 metal
-Large stone keep
--15x15 squares, 3 floors and you can go on the roof (maybe), but it would take 20000 stone, 8 rope, 20 boards, and 500 blocks of wood, and 10 metal

Keeps would be hard to destroy and would have keys, and a battering ram would smash a hole in the wall that could be walked through.
I will continue in my next post because my computer is being glitchy and it won't let me continue.

TOWERS
Towers would basically be a platform that you stand on to defend a village/fortress
-Watchtower
--3x3 squares, it would take 40 blocks of wood, 20 boards, and 25 boughs.
-Wooden tower
--4x4 squares, takes 100 blocks of wood and 50 boards
-stone tower
--5x5 squares, needs 250 stone and 50 clay
WALLS
New types of walls or edited versions of older walls.
-Platformed palisade
--2x2 squares for a piece of wall, the cornerposts and gate would be the same as before, except the gate and walls need 3 boards and 2 mroe blocks of wood, the wall would have a platform behind it that you can stand on, to get to it, you need stairs, the stairs take 30 blocks of wood and 12 boards.
-Stone wall
--I know its been suggested before but this would make it feel more like the middle ages, anyway, a cornerpost could take 800 stone, a wall would take 50 stone, the cornerposts and wall would be 2x2 squares and you could walk on it, the stairs would take 200 stone to build and the gate takes 100 stone, 20 boards and 12 rope.

Trench
This isn't really a building, its more of a terraforming option, anyway, you dig a hole in the ground, it would take a lot of stamina unless you have a shovel, if you right click on it, you walk up to it and go into the trench, there could also be a way to fill it with water, making an area of deep water that can't be crossed.
-barricade
--It could only be built on a trench and it blocks off one side of the trench, it would need 5 blocks of wood and you would need to have a sharp tool.
The highway currently goes nowhere.

Great way to over-complicate, ruin and cause more lag to this game... I dislike the idea, but a clay house which is already being suggested...

I disagree: having more options is never a bad thing.

for the time period where no one is completely sure but for the most I part think its somewhere around the beginning or middle of what was known as the dark ages (the time period after the fall of the Rome Empire but before the major kingdoms of the feudal area came into place in which much of the major advance in tech and culture were almost completely lost)
My friends are those who stand beside me, My enemies are those who stand against me, Those in between are innocent
I swear to protect my friends and the innocent from my enemies
So my question is Who Are You?

You made these houses WAY too easy to build. For a stone keep you just need a couple carrying nearby boulder stones, and a couple trees, and a rather small amount of metal, the Stone mansion is harder then that, it takes 600 straw which is a bitch to do.

I just edited that.
