THE GROWING ISSUE

Postby Fenrispantom » Thu Aug 05, 2010 7:32 am

As we all know about a week ago the devs of this awesome game made a attempted to set up a system of tree spawning but due to unforeseen issue with it had to disable till the fixed the bug and problems that it was causing. Now with this the devs seem to have include grass spreading on its own (which i don't get why they would do that) none the less while the tree spawning has been disable the grass growth has not and it posses quite a issue for any tree farmer as most of us knows IT SENDS TREE GROTH TIME TO HELL(well for anything no native to the stuff). So here my solution and it has been needed for quite some time as we can all plant grass why not be able to do the same with forest tiles make a button much like the grass one but have on show a tree (fir for the fir forest tiles, birch for the birch forest tiles) and turn off the nasty growth of this grass (not that grass is bad but it makes tree farming awful due to the increased amount of time)

I kind of like the way the grass is slowly taking over Haven. Is it really so bad?

as stated in the OP it kill tree growth time, increasing it a lot making it harder to grow trees. I do not mind it growing but i would like a way of planting the other forest tiles so i can keep a area where i can grow my trees

We should be able to make some sorta "packed earth" that blocks grass/forest growing. Packed earth can always be removed again, just takes a little time to remove.

example:

Packed earth: X

Grass: #

XXXXXXXXXX
########## Here, the packed earth blocks the grass from going any further in that direction.

####XX####
########## Here, the packed earth blocks 2 tiles, so it can still grow around it, but not ON the packed earth.

that would stop the grass growth but the issue stile stands that some areas have already been cover by the grass and there is no way to get that space back for tree farming

Just have it not change on village claim or at least personal claim perhaps.

A planted tree that grows to maturity converts the tile it's in to the native terrain for that tree. Repeat this process and the native terrain will spread from the planted trees.

Simple solution: plant trees, they should for one stop the grass and also spread their native environment around them.

In case they're not that effective in terms of spreading their environment: write a polite bug report, after you tested it.

This may be problematc for a a large scale villager per personal plot unless they have a tree needed for their production (read silk) that has massive paving.

This feature is still very young ... give it some time to see how it works.
The more you know about how it works ... the better you will know how to manipulate and control it.
Besides It need to be tested for some longer time to see if there are any major logical down sides to it current implementation. (Upset player don't count yet. ;) )

- Other ground types also invade forests area. Heath or Moor for example. (invade: seems to move inwards for forest area's that lack tree coverages.)
- Forests with to little tree coverages, and no other ground type around it, fall back to grass type. (slowly and random. random -> seems fast at first, but slows down at progressive states.)
- Grass itself will also be replaced by some of the other ground types. (seen with Moor)

Overall I thing its a nice feature.
- Don't know how tree growths is effected by neighboring others ground types. Although pavement seem to be able to completely stop a tree from growing past it first stage. (Rocks to it seems.)
