Juniper bushes

A juniper is a small bush that can only be grown in mountainous areas.
It grows very slowly (say 5x the time of normal trees), and gives no logs when chopped.
It (slowly) turns neighbouring mountain tiles into pine forest tiles (like other trees do).

It can be harvested for berries, boughs and branches.
The berries can be dried and used to season meat dishes, beers and liquors. (We'd call for quininated tonic waters in the next update)
The boughs can be used to smoke fatty fishes.

I like the idea of having some plants and bushes growing in the wild in general. Not as boring as tree after tree after tree.

I agree. I like that we have huge forests but they need more variety, especially coniferous forests. Besides, juniper berries open up gin as a possibility for future development.

Like I said in another thread, I think there should be more crops/plants/trees in this game. Your suggestion is brief, but it appears that you put some thought into it. I support.

It would be interesting to see some mountains with vegetation, although the tile conversion idea might be a tad overdoing it UNLESS there can be two mountain types: the current one and a heavily vegetated mountain terrain. I'm not exactly sure what purpose the latter would serve, but it would add more terrain diversity (another thing that I think would make the game more exciting).
