Tree Stumps

Postby johnsmith » Sun Aug 08, 2010 8:32 pm

Server down so thought I'd throw this back out there (it has been addresses before I am sure but am not going to look for it)

Tree's provide many blocks of wood when cutting them down at 20 whacks per tree, yet tree stumps take 50 wacks and only provide 4 blocks of wood.

I know in real life tree stumps are difficult to remove but this is a game, and now that we have instant repair which doesn't reflect real life, how about we ask that tree stumps either provide more wood, or take fewer wacks to get rid of.

This would aid in the travel by wagon and make it worthwhile to get rid of the ugly eyesore clear cutting caused by noobs and griefers have.

It would be sweet if the tree stumps from hq tree's had the same quality of the tree itself too :)

Come on already, the shovel takes 2 slots for god sakes. Its like lets try having a better hammer q-200 that should improve cutting performance over a q-10.

I'm sure that if INSTANT REPAIR is so good for everyone, and everything else is based off quality/strength/ blah blah formula then the above mentioned scenario is do-able

And still would like to see those tree stumps show the same quality of the tree.

and even with those shovels, there are an aweful lot of tree stumps everywhere. Lets see if an incentive can be made to get rid of them....

I agree. There should be more of an incentive to removing stumps you might come across or just cleaning up the area around your settlement. I wouldn't mind stumps maybe giving 6 blocks of wood?

even 6 isn't much, considering you get at least 24 by cutting one tree down with 20 chops. 16 to remove a stump for 4 blocks waste of time with shovel wasting 2 slots

who cares if it takes 2 slots it's not like you can use another tool while you're digging up stumps

excellent point

as to the topic, i could care less. i get rid of stumps because they get in the way, not cuz they are ugly. i wish you could use them as a seat or something.

That'd be useful.

Agreed on other points, stumps are a pain for being in the way, the only problem with shovel for the job is having to toggle between axe for chopping and shovel for stumps, and that's not a huge issue.

( I see some of these are already mentioned. )

Already implemented incentives.
1) will block you path if you try to walk trough them.
2) will stop a new tree growing on that spot.
3) will slow down the growth of new tree's nearby.
4) will stop you from picking up tree-logs that fall on (ok, in) a tree stump.

I personally go stump hunting one's in a while, dragging a Cart with some containers in it.
Or tree log hunting, Cart without containers in it. very useful when a newbie has passed by again in the area.

* Lets take stumps and be able to sit on them (As previously mentioned)
* Stumps can also yield up roots, good for making root beer. (We should also be able to use Birch Bark for this, but that's another matter), perhaps with qualities similar to tea?
* Obviously it's already good for firewood.
* Stumps taking so long to remove is a good thing, it simulates the fact that stumps take a LONG time to remove without dynamite.
* To make removing stumps even faster, fasten a harness to a bull, and to a stump, and yank that puppy out instantly!
