A recap from long ago...

I did a search and the only matches were from many many months ago, but there was also no counter critique that I saw, so I would like to propose that you consider adding sunflowers. It would put the crop count at 15, and you know how people eat up new content. Of course, there are many in-game advantages as well (if you didn't catch my joshing :D ). Besides their beauty and use in decorating around your house or village claim, they could yield, upon harvesting, a sunflower (like the poppy flower) and sunflower seeds (or maybe even leaves, if you could think of a use for them). Oh! How many possibilities we have now! Decorative items with the flower itself, much as the poppy garland. The seeds could be baked in an oven and eaten for a few FEP's or a temporary buff, or could be ground into sunflower oil which could be used in recipes or a potion or some kind of oil lamp.

And one other minor and less exciting thing. I saw that someone had said something about the devs wanting to add salt and food decay, but the players wanted to mine or pick salt. I would suggest adding it to a select number of water supplies (maybe the sandy lakes, or random places in water where water you collect is salt-water, in the same sense as some water is different qualities in different places) and then the player must boil the water in a cauldron to extract the salt.

There's my two-cents worth.

By the way, great game. I was just about to start developing my own when I found this one and got hooked. :)

When J&L get around to adding oceans to the game, I want to see cooking (boiling?) salt water as one means of obtaining salt.

Boiling water is when you heat water to 212* F or 100* C so that it rapidly vaporizes, which would leave behind any contained minerals that were heavier than the water vapor. (Of course, technically, the boiling point wouldn't be 212/100, since it would be salt water, obviously.)

I guess cooking would be the terminology used in-game, but you got the gist of it: put salt-water in a cauldron, light it, let it all "boil" out and collect an amount of salt proportionate to the amount of salt-water put in.

We've got enough stuff to mine/pick, plus, if you had to search for the spots to find it, it would increase its value.

If you want to make salt a commodity, put a timer on all fresh fruits and vegetables to go bad. Only way to store these foods is to preserve it using salt. Salt mine anyone? hah

I really like the sunflower idea. I wish we could grow more crops, including watermelon and maize/corn. I really love my crops.

As for your salt extraction idea, I like it as well, although lakes are usually fresh water. But who gives a shit about being so anal about realism? It's a game.

Perhaps the devs could add a new terrain for extracting salt (working kind of like a mine) -- sort of like a salt flat.
