roundpole fence gate lock

do you remember in movies or tv shows where they lock the door by putting a broom through the handles, so when they try to push/pull the doors open they cant? that is essentially my idea.

to feel safe you need to have a palisade, but even then you arent completely safe (battering rams.)

i would like to be able to lock my roundpole fence gate to prevent people from entering.

each time you lock it requires a x1 branch (to put through the gate handles) and it prevents people from entering. you will have the option to remove the branch from the gate handles so you can lock and unlock at will and reuse the branch but when someone who isnt allowed on your claim does it they will leave a theft scent (theft of the branch lock.)

while this wont make me feel completely safe i would like a newbie option of security without having to go to such big measures as making a palisade or brick wall for my tiny claim.

Unfortunately this would be a vastly false sense of security. A small child with a blow up hammer can easily knock down one of those walls. A lock wont do squat. The security you are asking for without having to invest in a Palisade does exist. It's a claim. It won't lock your doors but its a brick wall for newbie vagrants trying to make an easy score. You might consider it a bit of an LP investment, but its a hell of a lot less of a pain then a Palisade.

i do have a claim up but anyone can walk onto a claim even if they cant do it. which means a thief can look at your belongings without stealing anything and only leave trespassing scents. i want a thief deterrent. i want a thief to approach a gate and find it locked and i want him to think "is it really worth leaving a theft scent just to see if there is anything worth stealing in this place?"

...yes...do you not understand the mentality of thieves/vandals/murderers? they don't give a shit, must of them are full tradition so even if you do track them down and kill them, they just get 75% of the LP back and do it all over again...locking a fence gate is a waste of a branch

is it really that easy to steal from people with so little consequence to the thief? if it is i may think twice about sticking around. ive already been assaulted earlier if you havent seen the post.

It's a chosen play style for some and with the risk they have the ability to give themselves full Tradition in order to keep 75% of their stats upon reincarnation. However this pretty much puts LP gain to a screeching halt. Either the thief is a long time player who went bad or its a nub who half-assed his way there.

So in a sense yes it is "easy", but not without time and effort on their part. My advice if the neighborhood you live in is bad you pick up and leave. We all had to go through the exposed phase before and wile it does suck the world really isn't as bad as it can seem sometimes.

But again I stand by my point.

There's a level of security gained by having someone need to decide whether risking summoning is worth it for taking a peek and having someone not need to make that decision until they know what they're gaining.

For sure you can argue that the difference is trivial and won't come into play for most cases, but you seem to be arguing that the difference does not exist at all, which is incorrect.

Personally I'd like the ability to screen out the lazy / risk adverse thieves and only deal with the proper ones
