Logs Decaying?

Postby mattym14 » Sun Aug 15, 2010 9:17 pm

If logs don't already decay, that really should be changed. This request is justified by the situation show below. I cannot: Lift, Chop into Blocks, or Make Boards. This is because of the location of the logs. This is not by any means, my doing. The tree was simply too close to the cliff when I chopped it down. I needed to to expand my settlement. As I said before, nothing can be done to these logs due to the location of them.

P.S. Those things were whited out because I chose to remain 100% anonymous in-game. Although my Avatar is my character. e__e

A fix for this without making logs decay:
Spawn the logs on top of the stump instead of ALWAYS EAST. Then make stumps passable to players (carts/wagons arn't players, they'd get stuck) so you don't have to spend tedius minutes chopping it up to get to the logs. That way the game only needs to do one check once per tree, as the tree is spawned, to see if the tree is placed in a valid player-accessable position; and because the logs are spawned at the trees position, the logs will always be accessable as well.

Problem solved.
The Dwarf is making a plaintive gesture. He doesn't really care about anything any more.

or just have the logs fall on the side opposite of where the character stood when he began chopping.

heh when i started playing this game, at my first settlement i had loggs sticking out of my house and from my kiln in the same manner, i just didnt know that could happen at that time, so i just lived with them and tryed to see them as some extra spicy art in my property :? but yer i never really got used to them.

nevertheless Logg decay would be silly and a crazy waste of lumber, we dont want that, period! and for god sake dont make them always fall on top of the stump, sometimes you just wanna chop and sort the loggs get your boards, and then take care of the stumps and the woodblocks later , it would be highly annoying to always have to remove that damn stump to ever got a hold of that lumber, your inventory full of woodblocks when you really just wanted the boards at that time. when you plant high ql trees with a limited amount of space, you kinda always need to chop some trees to get space for the new ones, and then you save those high ql loggs for when you need them, if they would decay just becouse the tree was chopped that would kinda just ruin the hole treeplanting idea tbh.

there must be another way to sort it somehow.

Don't blame the logs. BLAME THE CLIFFS!!!
Just make Logs not fall on blocked areas such as cliffs, and stumps.

It has been suggested before that the logs fall to the opposite direction from where you are chopping. This way you could determine yourself where the logs are in the end.

This is more about an aesthetic aspect like when logs are right under your wall. Also logs can fall on water or clffs, where you cannot reach them.
