Hiding stolen goods on alts.

Many thieves are hiding stolen goods on alts that have not committed any crimes. I think this is a huge problem, but as I said earlier, itmay be fixed by a simple change--tracking stolen goods should be aided with the ability to summon and knock out (and steal from but not kill) an alt carrying stolen goods.

People need to be able to retrieve their goods. Going around the rules like this is ridiculously clearly an exploit that's not intentional and has caused some players much grief. I don't know how simple it would be to go through with what I've suggested, but I hope the devs do.

I know that some pople may be killed or knocked out for buying stolen goods, but this would simply make the game more interesting. You'd need to trust your source and be ready to talk your way out of a fight with a ranger. The vast majority of the casualties would be alts.

Once inventory is reimplemented, you'll be able to track common items instead of just the stealer. There is a problem with the current system that prevents this though. That update will really take care of the alt-thief problem, and real thieves will show their face, having to use better characters to get away with it.

Ah, my mistake. Thanks for the clarification, Lare.

You still won't be able to summon the guy with the stolen item in his inventory, will you? If you could, that would be sweet, but then what about people who have stolen goods they don't know are stolen and end up getting killed some some angry person who summons them? I think Kran is correct that they should not be killable when summoned - and you should only be able to retrieve the stolen item, nothing else from their person.
i guess they never miss huh

I think you should be able to possibly summon the item out from the inventory, but only be able summon the thief.

I think that it would be better if the thief got invulnerable after getting knocked out, so that you could raid his inventory, and vanish after recovering from getting KO'd.

I was thinking about this very problem last night, tracing objects directly sounds like a nice fix. I did think of one other addition/solution. For a few days after an item is stolen it would be "tainted by theft". If tainted items change hands a clue that pointed to the person traded to would get left. A ranging/perception skill could be required to tell if an item is tainted or not. Summoning might be possible.

Edit: some other thoughts along the same lines of summoning items out of inventories, I could imagine being able to summon a chest containing their inventory or something similar for this.

Oh, that truly is a good idea. There however still is the problem of people who unknowably get the items.

Edit: Thought of a better way, then reread your post realizing that it you stated the better way and I miss-read. Tainted items would be a good idea, though it should be relatively easy to see that they are tainted, less the newbie find a nice item, only to be killed for their ignorance.
