Stat loss & Ancestor Suggestion

Postby DeadlyPencil » Sun Aug 22, 2010 7:16 pm

First here is an example: a 200 melee pure fighter walks up to a 200 farming character and kills him. The farmer now has 50 farming. Now lets say the farmer manages to get revenge, now the fighter has 50 melee. However... the fighter can access his ancestor power, and can temporarily have 250 melee.... stronger than before, where the farmer is now a pathetic noob with nothing to show for time except a crop he cant harvest anymore.

This is the reason why PVP wont work in this game. anyone with any stats other than fighting stats are going to be to afraid to get into a fight.

To change this I suggest the following:

- There would no longer be 3 ancestors, just ancestors in general.

- On death you lose a flat 50% of your skill EXP, and 50% of your attributes.

- On death your ancestors gain ALL your skill exp LOST, not just your fighting stats (the 50% of your attributes are lost completely).

- Using your ancestor power adds their exp to yours. So if you recently died, and used your ancestor power, your skill values would be equal to what they were before.

Example:

Current: You die with 200 melee, and go to 50, then level up to 200 melee again and use your ancestor power, you now have 400 melee

Suggestion: You die with 200 melee, and go to 100, then level up to 200 melee again. You use your ancestor power, you now have 264 melee (1.5 mil melee exp added onto your current exp from the exp lost going from 200 to 100)

- ancestor power would no longer be limited to 1 day, instead it would be common to keep it up indefinably by sacrificing items to your ancestors shrine. The more exp your ancestors have in comparison to your own stats, the more upkeep you have to pay so upkeep will be equal to the delta of the 2 values. So for example if you go get yourself killed until you have no natural stats remaining, you would have a rather large upkeep until you gained more exp. If you don’t want to pay the upkeep for a couple weeks, then you are left with your noob stats until you do.

Change portion of the belief slider would remain the same. At full tradition you instead would be given +24% skill/attributes and reduced ancestor upkeep. So if this game ever has long drawn out village wars, or you don’t feel like leveling anymore or paying upkeep, you can switch to tradition to get stronger.

What this accomplishes:

This would keep permanent death in the game, however make it so everyone can participate in player vs player conflict. This method would allow a farmer with 300q crops to die, and still farm the next day, instead of having to grind for a month in order to touch his precious crops again. This would also discourage death by having attributes permanently lost and having an optional upkeep based on the delta of your exp vs. your ancestors.

This suggestion also makes ancestors make more sense. When you gain your ancestors power, you should be gaining knowledge that you do not have, not knowledge you already have. By making the power they give you equal to the exp LOST I think it makes more sense.

If you like this suggestion keep it bumped until they read it

Nobody killed him, so why don't you actually give some constructive feedback?

Anscestors should provide a bonus up to but not beyond their ratings else the system is exploitive like AW already is, else, decay in some form. Aside from that this sounds really good
Well what is this that I can't see
With ice cold hands takin' hold of me
Well I am death, none can excel

I like this. It does fill a glaring hole in the ancestor system.

Nice post, DP.

... nice derail attempt. No I didn't die.

i wish there was a way they could just flag topics they read. Its annoying to sit there and write something up, then never know if someone read it. I almost think for stuff they seem to ignore, like combat posts etc, some of the major villages should just write up a joint suggestion on what the players think should happen and get one of the moderators to force them to read it.
