Server Restarter

Pretty simple idea, and it's not difficult to make at all, just make a Shell Script (Unix-derivatives) or a Batch file (Windows), have it check the status of the server process, and if it's not running, start it.

If there's already something like this in place, forget I said anything.

bugs need to be fixed before restarts or all hell will break loose, so no auto restarts. ever.

What you don't seem to understand is that not every crash is caused by a bug, there are many other conditions that could cause a server crash, some that cannot be helped, or fixed, and the only solution is to simply start it back up.

Secondly, I wasn't asking for input from anyone, except maybe the people actually developing the game, I do not appreciate someone else, even moderators, hijacking my thread by making an authority-implying statement such as yours.

no, every crash is caused by a bug or memory out error. these require manual fixes. why would you think otherwise? what else would crash the server? starting the server back up without manual fixes would cause data corruption. you are not the first person to suggest this, and this has been the response from the devs. feel free to not listen to anyone else though :roll:

Yes, you're absolutely right, there's no such thing as an operating system issue, and yes, data is corrupted for not fixing every single memory error there is in a program :roll:

Edit:
And what do you mean by a "memory out error", just pulling words out of your ass?

by "memory out error" i mean the error caused when the server runs out of virtual memory

@Alphora:
Wow, Thanks for that solution. No more long server down time's.
The Dev's really need more pooples like you to help them out.
(Leave the programming shit to the real programmers. Knowing how to script don't count.)

doesn't not restarting it right away also prevent rollbacks. i thought i remember loftar saying he was capturing the memory on the server or something like that, and that probably wouldn't work if you reset the server right away. i would rather the server be down and be able to do something else, than have the server roll back 2 hours that i have played.

I understand now that there's some game-specific issues with the server being automatically restarted, I understood that from the first reply, I was just picking on the "It will never happen" being said by someone who doesn't control that, it's not that he's wrong, it's that he wasn't the person who had the "absolute" say in that.

And I'm going to go against my personal beliefs and feed the troll, mvquilik, I mentioned shell scripts because they're easy, not because I don't know anything else, I'm currently in a similar position to Loftar (I think...?), in that I'm in college working on a computer-related degree. I'm working on a PHD, majoring in computer science, and minoring in systems engineering, so, obviously, I "haven't" programmed for longer than you've likely been alive, (assuming you're under the age of thirteen, which is what it seems.), thus I am "not" a real programmer. :roll:

And I'll take this moment to say to sabinati, I wasn't starting a sarcastic ego-battle, and I guess I came across a little rude, I apologize.
