A non-pvp server?

Postby AlexFili » Wed Jul 29, 2009 4:02 pm

Maybe in the future if you have alternative worlds, you could have a non-pvp world? Not everyone likes PVP. Just thought I'd put this idea in the air to see if anyone else thinks the same. Beta testing would be easier as well if people weren't killing each other every second as well.

Stop bitching and taking everything too damn seriously, this is the second thread you've made for it
and like others have said it would be "eating things online".
Also, clearly you've never heard of Ultima Online. When the whole trammel split happened, the entire game and it's playerbase disintegrated which would surely happen for an very small game like this. Also, I don't know where you are that "people are killing each other every second"
I've left my land unclaimed, my character standing around while afk, and other things and only encountered trouble once or twice. maybe you just suck

There's a couple of HUGE differences between UO and H&H though.
1. Dying in UO is practically laughable; sure you might lose the items on your corpse, but you're an idiot if you didn't insure/bank anything important anyway. Death in H&H means you'd lose your skills/stats unless you take the massive cut in LP gain rate by being full tradition; in addition to losing the items you had.
2. Can't steal from banks, go figure. No such thing in H&H
3. You can grind your skills to acceptable levels in less than a week. Even faster if you used macros, which they either allowed or couldn't stop.
4. Trammel was the "gently caress you rear-ends-in-top-hats" to all those damn ganking cowards. Most of the people who did the same in H&H are dead.
Unrelated - Siege Perilous ftw.

Regardless, it's certainly not the time to implement a "safe" server yet, maybe a newbie "area" (Which would kick you out after a time), but certainly not a seperate world.
You see a masterful engraving by Blaze. On it is Blaze, bears, boars, and foxes. Blaze is striking down the bears. The boars are screaming. The foxes are in a fetal position. The image relates to the return of Blaze in the late winter of 2009.

I don't doubt that you supported enforced PVP when Raeph was still alive to protect you, and now that you're not effectively invincible, you're changing your tune.

False. How much more difficult would it be to test something after needlessly dividing your playerbase?

this is also ignoring the fact that the devs haven't yet gotten a decent computer for their current server

J&L are making a game according to their vision, and people can play if they like. Not really the other way around.

I know its a bit wild west ATM, and I suspect it always will be to some extent, but even now its more likely you will be stolen from than murdered. Unlike in UO, it is exactly because the costs of dying are so high that we wont see the same kind of murderers that existed there.

For now it's impossible because things need to be tested, but i do think that it would be good to have a pvp free server. I wonder how many people would go there. Would be cool if it was linked with the other server though acting like a sort of newbie area.
The ones who see things differently.

You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them.
And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.

If there was a non PVP world I wouldn't go there. I think the idea of it's presence would irritate me slightly in that it means less people in the 'real' world for me to play with.

Mechanically I think the PVP world would be just as easy to grief in, if the black arts existed, then thieving and vandalism, if they didn't exist, then wall-ins. You could stop them from being 100% effective with large investments in claims, but I think it could still get pretty annoying pretty quickly. Point is moot for me though, as I'm not interested in PvP free world.

Indeed, I don't need to expand on that argument -- a non-PvP server for Haven simply wouldn't make any sense.

We have considered some anti-n00b-killings aspects, though; like a "mark of innocence" which would make that player unrageable, but which would disappear after either some time or when he commits his first evil action. A separate "tutorial area" is another thing we've considered, but it should be noted that neither it nor any character played with in there would be saveable, however.
