New Skill: Ranger's Perception

Postby ciroth » Tue Oct 05, 2010 1:16 pm

Skill: Ranger's Perception
Requirements: Ranging, Solider Training, Tricks and Ruses, Perception 100+ and Exploration 100+
Type: Passive
Description: Many months spent training and track animals and lead you to become observant watching the shadows, your inner gut feelings have been honed to the point that would warn you even if there was something slightly wrong with the wind.

When player is targeted by a player hiding in the forest either aiming with or without Concealment, the targeted player with this skill will automatically be notified of being targeted. A Sound or visual indicator will warn the player that someone is aiming at him. This skill may fail if the targeting player has high enough stealth.

Example:
Baddie A Targets Farmer B
Farmer B has Skill and 200 Perception while Baddie has 150 Stealth, Farmer B has about 90% Chance of detection.
BUT If Farmer B has skill and 100 perception while Baddie has 150 Stealth, there is only a 50/50 chance of detection. (rough numbers)

Also god dam if u release like four million ideas on the same hour make them all in the same one not in separate ones -.-

Linked to the above, please avoid making grab bag threads with multiple unrelated suggestions. Give each idea its own thread so posters can discuss its merits, so that ideas aren't overshadowed by more popular ideas, and so that they might be found later using the search tool.

As for ciroth's idea, it is not very good imo, it is primarly a counter to balance another skill that he has sugested. On it own merits however it fails the face that most players will run from a bow user or kill him as soon as thay see the bow. I also fee that you made the per end exp requirments a bit high, only dedicated archers and foragers have high perception and only pro foragers have high exploration. And even thay will probably stop placing lp into exploration after 55-65 exploration.

I genuinely like the idea of getting an indicator the your are being targeted by a ranger.
Well what is this that I can't see
With ice cold hands takin' hold of me
Well I am death, none can excel

Yup, this is the proper way of making C&I threads.

This won't help those poor random newbies just peacefully enjoying their new bourgeoning farm and get killed in one shot by some random asshole with a ranger bow. Ranged weapons need to not one-hit kill. Even if they still one-hit KO and the asshole ranger comes up to do the coup de grace, atleast at that point the player of the poor KO'd hearthling can understand what is happening.

Ok, that was a little off, but basically, if there is any notification like this, it shouldn't just be for high level hearthlings.

Edit: the "farmer's retreat" or whatever does cover this aspect a little bit atleast.
Hearthlings: Marona; Chamberlain (retainer alt), Vincavec (shaman of the Dryad Wells Forest)
