What Time is it in Haven?

Postby kobnach » Thu Jul 30, 2009 5:24 am

I'd like to see a Haven clock available, possibly outside the game. It's not realistic to have accurate time pieces at night, but not knowing when dawn will arrive can be a playability nuisance. It's a moonless night in Haven, the game's been up and down like a yoyo recently, and I consequently have no idea whether it's near dawn or near sunset - so I don't know whether to give up on playing tonight - or to continue idling waiting for some indication of time of day. This wouldn't be a problem if the game would stay up - but it's not staying up, so the relationship of Haven time to RL time keeps changing.

I believe the plan is to change the day lengths so that the relationship constantly moves anyway (share the daylight out between time zones).

As to a clock, I'm neither for nor against the idea... I tend to play less when it's night, but I can usually judge how long it's got by the moon, and moonless nights don't happen so often

I wouldn't mind seeing sundials and water clocks in the game...

The little time indicator at the top is a pretty solid representation of a sundial. Though the buildable objects would be cool, too.

Anyway, I think (currently) the gametime is always the same, regardless of crashes. I don't know that, but I think I read that. Somewhere. Could be hearsay or a figment of my imagination. If the 'share the daylight' plan is ever implemented (and even if it isn't), a clock in-or-out of game would be nice, though, I have to agree.

Also it's currently dawn, if you haven't noticed.

Wow, I was thinking about the exact same thing, except I wanted a real tangilble item. It'd simply be a clock that has the gears rotate 3 times faster.
Ofcourse, none of use are Swedish Watch makers, so, the next best thing would be to make one.
I'll try to make a Rainmeter app that would display Haven Time.
If/When I finish it, I'll post it on the forums.

When Loftar adds support for it, I was actually gonna make an applet that shows what time it is in-game, haven-style.
It'll be for Linux, though. :)
