We NEED Sheep's Milk

Postby ewlol » Sat Oct 16, 2010 3:27 am

Seriously why isn't this implemented. It has been talked about numerous times and sheep's milk is a very common dairy in Europe and throughout the world. We wouldn't have Roquefort, Feta, or Ricotta without the precious milk of the ewe. I'm sick of raising sheep for the sole purpose of gauze, the rarely-used mutton, and the lack-luster vapn.

Why do people always suggest dumb stuff like this when in reality it will never actually be used by anyone? No one cares about how many different cheeses they can make. They'll just pick the one that gives the best FEP bonuses and stick to that one exclusively. There's tens of recipes that aren't even touched by most players because they're just not worth worrying about when it comes to strategic gameplay.

Suggest gameplay mechanics, not neverending materials/foods/recipes that will likely never be used.

You know it could probably be used as a substitute for some milk recipes, too?

And no, you're wrong. People don't eat only one food. Maybe you do, but you don't speak for the whole of HnH. I know for a fact that in my village a variety of things are consumed, especially cheeses.

Yeah differnece is some of those actually do get used, and people who enjoy cooking food will sell it to those who think it's good but not worth making.

Cheese in general is the easiest thingto make really.

This could be useful as an alternative to cows, for recipes that asked for "Any Milk". Or instead for a generic recipe where the resulting product is based on the ingredients used.

but seeing the crafting UI become even more cluttered than it already is with recipes specifically asking for sheeps milk would be really annoying

I think the crafting menu is quite manageable as it is, and I think it could hold another 50+ recipes before it stops being that. It's relatively easy to say "generic recipes!" but you do of course realize that it's not quite as easy as just saying it. A system like that -- which we do want in one form or another -- needs a lot more concretization before we can even begin building it. Since the input lists we specify for our present recipes would most likely be reused in a more generic crafting system -- along with their external resources like graphics and what not -- it's not as if we're wasting our time implementing them. In the meanwhile, I think most people appreciate a few more toys to play with, even if the menu does get a bit bloated. The fish recipes -- for all their specificity -- made fishing a lot more fun and rewarding, and fish a lot more valuable, for examples. It was easy for us to do, and it made fishing come ever so slightly more alive.

We constantly have to weigh the pros and cons of working within existing systems versus improving on them or even rewriting them. It goes without saying that we sometimes have to settle for less than what we might opt for in the best of all possible worlds. Exploring new resources and implementing new industries is something that we've also had to do, and without those the best crafting system imaginable would still suck balls, as there'd be nothing to craft with it. Also, the examples provided by the specific recipes are essential when formulating a new and better system. Sheep's milk would be awesome -- even if the recipes were specific as fuck.

I am very proud of our track record, thank you very much. :)
