Guard

Works on the same principle as a tamed animal, only difference is that this one will attack anything in range of them that a village member attacks that the guard belongs too.

i figure that there should be a limit of guards depending on the overall size of the village claim.

for creation i think it could be adapted by the cheiften set of commands to call new ones forth from the village idol, and send them back the same way.

you would move the guards around like you would any tamed animal , only they would stay where you release them.

i figure for a cost the guards with each use up a specific amount of village points per hour(like a representation of wages).

i also had an idea that the guards would be equipped with whatever armor and weapons the chieften who summons them is wearing, and the better the armor and weapon the greater the initial cost.

for stats, such as unarmed and melee.( i dont think hat ranged guards is a good idea, really hard to code) i figure they would be the same as the chieftens.

for combat menuvers a basic shield/charge/stab manuever would work just fine, in my opinion.

making it so that villages could be guarded by nothing more than a "commander" with a sling, and a few rocks(to initiate targets). And defence of ones village will be more routine. Also allowing villages to not have 90% of the population armed in case of invasion or raids.

NPC guards have been suggested many, many times, in one form or another. I don't think that will ever happen, judging from what i've seen in the forums.

i figured that if an idea for a guard that was presented logically and had a reasonable cost, so they wont have mass production. most villages have only 1 gate anyway. so it wouldnt take very many guards to watch it.

i don't suggest movable armies, just localized guards on the property.

Well, if we get wolves (isn't this very likely to happen? I've seen wolf capes on special people :D), makes sense to tame them to get dogs and dogs make good guards, whichever mechanic was involved. But you'd have to feed them a lot of meat to be able to keep them or they go wild again? Perhaps make a trough to accept only meat products...

you forgot about bones.
-1 to OP idea. First guards, then machines to gather wheat, and then what? this game is about co-operation. Need a guard? Accept a warrior into village, feed him, do not make him work and you have one. Protecting your property? Attach an XMPP notification account.

Yeah, human npc guards don't sit well with me either. But dogs would work for me.

We have too many exploits available in favor of the raider as it is. Adding a tamed animal you could make follow you and help you in battles on the village claim would be at least a point towards defenders. And it would probably add a very interesting new development to village life :)

NPCs that help? No thanks.

I'd like humanoid 'monsters', but not NPCs, and not helpful ones. :(

I do like the idea of dogs though since I would like a group-hunting system (almost RTSlike)
