Openable quiver.

Postby Professor_Mindscape » Tue Oct 19, 2010 10:50 pm

Basically, I'm just asking that the quiver be openable in the manner of a seedbag. It'd still function the same, this just allows you to see what kind and quality of arrows are in the quiver.

Right now, you don't know whether you're grabbing your quiver full of q150 bone arrows or some noobs quiver of q10 stone arrows, and the only way to find out is try and shoot someone.

I see no problem with the idea other then a quiver holds if i remember 40 arrows and each arrow takes up 2 slots meaning the inventory of the quiver would be 80 tiles big. I think to slim this down it should only show the tips of the arrows that way you know if its a bone arrow or stone arrow, while being able to check its ql.

Or it could just work like barrels and display the average q of the arrows.

Yes to openable, no to being 80 tiles big, should have sone alternate view , but a way to move and organize your arrows.

I think a flyout with options like "remove arrow" and "empty quiver" would be simplest.

and maybe for simplicity, the damage dealt will be base on the average as in fodder in troughs and coops??
cause removing them by labeling the q of all the arrows sounds too complex??

Well I think in barrels and troughs the individual units still keep their individual qualities, it's just that'd be a hassle to display to an inspecting player, so the average is displayed. Something like this would work fine for inspecting a quiver in my opinion, since I assume most arrow crafting is done in batches with similar materials.

could be an opportunity for loftar to experiment with an inventory style that does not require tetris, just give us a sorted list display grouped by type and quality

This is completely apropos of nothing, but am I the only one thinking that "openable" doesn't look like a real english word when spelled out in text?

But in seriousness:

* Averaging the arrow values in the quiver would not be a very terrible idea as far as i can tell, but there's just something about it that seems... wrong. And if only the avg. q is displayed, then only the avg. q should be operable when using the quiver. Otherwise it would get weird i think. I might say that, if averaging like this DOES become part of the game, then it should be incorporated into crafting some how. A few pieces of bone material, a few blocks of wood, (and maybe chicken feathers, why not?) would yield a full quiver of arrows with q determined by a weighted average of the material inputs. (would give a nice new use for chickens too!)

* The arrow-list-showing-quality idea is snazzy. I like it.
