Planting trees should give more lp

Postby xato13 » Sat Oct 23, 2010 7:00 pm

I have walked through allot of areas where there are only tree stumps as long as the eye can see.
I even walked out of my house once to find the entire forest around me had been turned into tree stumps, except a few trees inside my claim.
They left all the logs, so it most have been to get the extra learning points.
So i was thinking what if you gained more learning points from planting trees then chopping them down?
Wouldn't that make deforestation less common?

Observe that this is my first post and that i tried to search for other posts like this one.

Well it wouldn't get rid of clearcutting, since that is much easier and faster than to plant a tree, but still might not be a bad idea to raise LP for quite some common tasks. It would make some tasks nobody wants to focus on exclusively become an actual job within a town people might want to work on.

Maybe cutting a tree leaves a one-use scent similar to trespassing that can only be seen by nature characters?

I'd rather have us players hunt down clear cutters than the Dryads doing the job.

I am not saying it would get rid of the clear-cutting, but it might make replanting more appealing:)
And if you make it more lp awarding, so would it be likely that more people started replanting forests

and thx for the reply:)

I've been giving a (small) amount of thought to the clear-cutting issue. Honestly, outside of the ugliness factor, and the sting to our pride when we see the evidence of some lazy fucker racking up LP for some new alt just so they can buy "tresspassing" and make a thief alt or whatever, what is the real problem with clearcutting? Especially now that trees naturally re-spawn on their own.

I will concede that some dimwit mowing down your grove of q 100 fir trees just to get the LP for chopping them is a heinous crime. But that's more of a tresspassing issue, right?. If you really want those high q trees, make a village statue or banner and claim them. Otherwise they must not have been that important to you.

And if you don't like the sight of a bunch of tree trunks littering the countryside, then claim that area, pull up the stumps and replant it all.

I'll add that I say all of this as a person who, while out exploring, will see an ugly mini-map's worth of stumps and grass patches and say to myself, "what the hell...", but as long as it's not on or near my claim, what's it to me? I wouldn't mind seeing forestry naturally becoming a "trade" in its own right, and adding LP to the skill would help that, so +1 to OP, but the clear-cutting argument just doesn't seem to have legs.

I get your point, but as i said in the original post, when i left my house so where all trees gone except those inside my claim. just because someone wanted some extra lp.
So i am saying wouldn't it have been better if he had planted trees instead?:) (if lp increases so do i think that more people will start to plant trees than before)

But i do get your point that it doesn't matter to you if the land is a bit barren, but that's something personal, some ain't bothered about it and some are.

I agree with you that it would make it more appealing to have it as your "trade".

Trees don't regrow on their own, there was problems with placement of saplings so it got taken down till further notice. So clearcutting converts forest into grassland, which reduces hunting opportunities in the neighbourhood.
