With the repair thing, and the lack of wood, I imagine half of H&H is keeping a lot of things inside mines - and then there are the dwarves, who live entirely underground.

Houses are automatically lighted, even during the night, whereas mines are always dark. That may be needed for balance - and I certainly don't want houses to become dark to match mines - but it would be nice to have some decent light sources - either extinguishable, or staying lit at least a game day. The closest we have to that is candelabras, and I was very frustrated to find no way of extinguishing them, unlike the clumsy methods we have for torches and miners helmets (for those who don't know, unequipping them extinguishes them).

I usually have my hands full, and probably a bandage on mt head, so portable light sources are a nuisance, when popping in and out of the storage area for a bite to eat, or to stash the products of my recent work.

Did you try putting a lit candelabra in a cart? I heard that time doesn't pass in there, but I'm not sure it will work.
