Night-time is almost unplayable currently

Postby AlexFili » Sun Aug 02, 2009 10:02 am

Torches and Head-Lamps give hardly any visibility and the darkness of the game is enough for me to get really frustrated with. While some developers think it's good to make players wander around in the dark, I think it's just unfair to the players, especially those without perfect eyesight to begin with. There must be more productive ways to show night-time without turning the screen pitch black in the process.

Please just consider making the brightness higher so that people don't have to put up with a really piss-poor night-time experience that almost ruins the entire game. Or at least give the player the option to turn off day/night graphics entirely. That would make things a lot better.

I don't know what their intentions are, Jorb once said that
"the night should be mysterious, not annoying",
but I've long thought it would/could be better if they left the
blue layer untouched, only darkening the red and green layers.
That's how they do it in lots of movies.

Make it so being on the night side of the day/night slider gives one improved dark vision. Someone on the day side should also get something of equal value, but I can't think of anything appropriate.

Light sources being made much brighter sounds like the best plan.
I will steal all of the RuneStones in the land, if your stone has gone missing in the night then I'm already hauling it.

I suggest a new village magic. Will'O' The Wisp. It would create small light sources to wander randomly around the circumfirence of a town or claim. In a mine or otherwise.

Other thoughts could be fireflies in the wild

Especially like the fireflies part, you could have crops of trees to entice them, even use them in jars of sorts to light areas in a mine, like almost inextinguishable sources of light. Feeding them of course much like silkworms. Maybe not so often.

Another thing is, that the light should just suddenly end like it does, rather, it should gradually fade out. Certain objects should also cast certain colors of light too.
It'd be pretty awesome to walk around with a red glassed lantern, and have stained windowed buildings. *cough*add more glass objects jorb*cough*

while these might be nice eventually there are seriously more pressing things to worry about than pretty lights or magic bloat
