Bring back wild plant patches

Postby Onionfighter » Sat Dec 04, 2010 7:02 am

WWWs are ok, but when beginning a map it is much more fun to find the wild plants scattered around like in the first two worlds. We could actually have both at the same time, anyway.

Also, wheat should be easier to find. Having it is so vital that I think half of all wwws should be wheat.

yeah i really liked the wild plant patches. the problems with them were:

the patches were too large
too many hops
didn't respawn

I thought there were too many onions. I did end up eating some when I was exploring and starving.

I remember being the first to discover grapes for my village in world 2. It is a lot more exciting to actually know you have gotten something useful, rather than getting something that has a small chance of being useful.

Yeah I would love those back in the game too. Respawning is an issue though, especially with a world that lasts as long as this one.

They could randomly spawn throughout the world like taproots, stinging nettles, etc. do, only in tiny bunches.

I 100% agree, finding a wild plant patch is a lot funner & exciting!
It was a sad day when they were replaces by WWWs. :(

I can see where you're coming from, but the plant-patches had several issues. Respawning being one (though that could probably be solved by actually spawning more plants ;)), and the introduction of new plants being another (though that could probably be solved by actually spawning new plants ;)). On the other hand i kind of like the WWWs and the uncertainty associated with foraging them.

change it so they are like herbs...? you'd still need the same per*ex to see them as www, but spawn in a clump of 3-4 like mussels?

Honestly I don't have a problem with them not respawning at all. Even toward the very end of world 2 the patches could still be found near my house, and new crops could still be introduced via wwws. They also added a little variety to the landscape. I don't like the idea of them spawning like herbs because I like them being an actual part of the landscape.
