Temporary Marker (i.e. chalk, etc.)

This is a minor thing, but annoying all the same:

I'm trying to count the trees in my forest for management purposes, but it's difficult. I could put a campfire construction sign in front of each one, but I'd have to deconstruct the sites afterwards lest they impede the growth of the trees. Dropped items can be hard to see against forest terrain even in daylight, and have a way of inconveniently disappearing. It'd be nice if I could put some kind of visual marker on the tree which would last for several minutes. I understand this is an art issue so it's probably more of a hassle to fix than it's worth, but it's still an annoyance.

it would be cool to be able to draw a chalk line on the ground for laying out construction of roads & etc. as well

After some experimentation, it turns out apples last for about 20 minutes and are decently visible. I'll try using them in a large scale counting operation later. However, not being able to hold more than 24 at a time is terribly inconvenient, particularly considering it takes a mouse-click and button-press to acquire each one.
