I think the game needs to implement a Submission system. perhaps take someone hostage or prisoner.... This gives villages incentives to perhaps.. ransom somebody, maybe this calls for a rescue mission, perhaps they didnt realize the person they captured was actually incredibly powerful and picked the handcuffs himself and killed the jailguard with Unarmed Combat next time he was checked on. Perhaps you captured someone who just spent 3 days builting his land and agreed to work within your walls for 5 days if you just let him go. It just opens up a lot more to do and politics.
If this is implemented there should be different levels of submission
1) Confine - Perhaps a Jail house, an area in which the submitted player cannot leave. (skills available, better hope he doesnt have 999 STR and punch a hole through your fken jail wall)
2) Disable - Perhaps binding your victim, disabling movement or skills till he is rescued, released, or the binds wear out due to quality (has to be time limited and costly othwise people will be left bound forever)
3) Restrain - Still has movement, no sprinting, but lacks skills, can be untied by self if left uninterrupted for 60 seconds, can be stacked with Confine. (Cheap and fast way to restrain someone stunned, this way you can run faster than them so they can't get away, and gives you a temporary restraint to transfer people to jail house assuming they cooperate. If not you shoot them in the face)
4) Blindfold - Reduces a players vision to a 4x4 square around him. Disables mini map. Disables players names, even allies. Reduces all Skills by 1. +10% LP gain. (maybe some people would like to run their usual tasks blindfolded, extra challenges but extra rewards.
To kill or be killed should never be the only options.
Problems n Solutions:
1. What if a character is just locked up forever?
Answer: He won't be. If he's tied, binds wear off or can be untied. If he's in a jail (which keeps you perma aggroed), he can always choose the easy way out, starve yourself to death (you woulda been killed anyways), try and break out (assuming you have better stats than the builder), or call on friends.
2. What about slavery? I want SLAVES!!!!
Answer: Easy. Use the Claim Property system... except players build a "watchtower" that watches over a piece of land. If a prisoner tries to leave it, the tower will destroy his face. Of course, 20 of his buddies could come in, sack the tower, and take off with their friend. Or maybe your new slave has no friends so would gladly complete the task for his freedom. Better hope you're Marksman + Exploration levels are greater than your opponents stealth and unarmed combat levels because otherwise he'll sneak off with minimal damage!
3. What?!?!?! slaves will sneak off too easy then!
Answer: Just because they can leave your "watchtower" doesn't mean they've escaped. Watchtowers keep binds from decaying. Once leaving the area, they're restraints will keep them from moving any faster than a crawl till the prisoner can find a way to remove them. Not only that, when escaping, you leave a trail that can also be picked up by exploration and perception. All of a sudden stealth is a much more useful skill! Not only that, when restrained your stealth is cut in half so it is much more easy to track you till you get those shackles off.
4. Still seems too easy to escape....
Answer: Watchtowers would not be meant as a replacement for a jail. A bin at the bottom of a watch tower can be filled with ingredients (the same way you put materials down to build a structure). Once the set amount of items has been put in, it will become disabled. Again if work is not your thing, death is always a choice.
5. Why are you so obsessed with submission man?
Answer: Three Words, Gladiator Fken Battles.... maybe no one wants to play the role of a slave... but a gladiator.. if you can restrain people and pit them against eachother to the death... oh em gee.. glorious. absolutely glorious. But no seriously, if we can't have gladiator slaves at least do everything else.
I'm high, if this doesn't make sense, pray for me.
