Pipes and Pumps

Postby Wwariorr10 » Sat Jan 29, 2011 2:06 pm

Hello!
I've come to suggest pipes (not the smoking kind), and after a search, it has never been suggested before!
This would be period-appropriate, because the hand pump was invented in the Roman era.

So, the first thing you would do would be to build an intake at your favorite High Q water source. I think that is should be expensive to build pipelines, definitely using steel bars. Let's say three for a water intake.

So, when you build this water intake, either in shallow water, or in a well "node", the Q of the pipeline's water would equal that of the original water's, but perhaps softcapped by the steel Q.
From then on, you would extend the pipeline much like you would a palisade or fence, each section requiring one bar of steel.
When you reach your desired extraction point, you must build a "Hand Pump" which would require several bars of steel, and perhaps some clay and wood.

Maybe it'd be possible to have pipes be invisible, except for segments that have one open end (so you could easily see where to extend from.) or intakes.
Also, being able to have other structures over them is a must.

When using a pump, it would be just like a well, only with a different animation.

I think that is about it for now, hopefully you liked it!

copper of bronze fits better for water pipes, since steel or iron dont last long in humid conditions.

For the rest its a good idea, works kinda like aquaducts

It should require a shovel, as laying pipe would take more digging than what you could resonably do by hand and it would give those damn tools a useful application.
Today is a good day to die.

Yum, delicious late-game hearthling senility.

The reason I said steel was because they should be expensive, in my opinion, but I guess they could be made out of clay.

Also, requiring a shovel is a good idea.

Maybe the material used to make these pipes determines their decaying time to.

Having them decay would be a bitch, so we should add it. :D

Let the pump have a radius like beehives, so it could have a function as soil improver (humid soil) for crops.
Crops grow better when they have water, dont they?
Rivers and lake should also have some kind of radius, but smaller.
Pumps should have a larger radius because the water level of rivers is mostly lower than land around it.

One more thing maybe implement some kind of bathhouse that can only be build on a pipeline.
That bathhouse could give bonuses, like improved healing (faster than a gauze) and uses fuel to warm the water.

It could also be used to bring water to miners, but that would require much programming i think..

So yes, inplement pipes, you can do so much based on that if you are creative :p
