While added clothing varieties would always be nice for individual character appearances, I don't really see a problem with the current "tools/weapons" side of the equipment. Tools are used to serve a purpose, and at the risk of segmenting the actual gameplay (you need a separate type of axe to lumberjack than you do for mining), it just becomes an annoying chore for people to manage and maintain all these different equips. We've already got quite a few one-off equips that are hardly utilized (frying pan, shovel).
As for weapons, I can't really comment much because I'm not too familiar with the high end combat system. Some more variety would certainly be nice, but a part of me just assumes that people will automatically strive to create and use the weapon which gives the best advantage in combat. As of right now the combat system doesn't seem varied enough to allow for more than a couple playstyles, so everyone ends up using the same technique.
