I want the cooking oil

Postby moki0901 » Tue Feb 01, 2011 7:16 am

Grape seed oil, lard, or want the same things

it is difficult to get butter, so i think if we have a oil, it can be a replace or improve to making food that require butter

This is actually a great idea. They shouldn't be totally interchangable, but in some instances, yes. Just add margarine and margarine production, too.

Just make the recipe for oil use the 1/2 quality of special press(which will use wood and thus will be much linited) and 1/4 of seeds quality. This way it`d be nice alternative to butter, not an overkill.

Lard, please. It could also replace butter as dough shortening, something which oil can't do very well.

After some online dictionary browsing, I do no not think we have the word shortening in norwegian.
Any reason you think vegetabile oils cannot be used in leavened doughs?
I have used oil in both pizza and bread doughs.
Margarine on the other hand is an invention of fairly modern chemistry iirc.

Pizza is not a shortened dough. It's those fluffy cakes with crumbly texture.

Right, come to think of it, the norwegian word would fittingly enough be butterdeig (butterdough).
Would not be a problem to have most recipes ask for (any) Fat, while the, hrm, shortened doughs ask for only butter (or butter/lard)?
I would long to be able to dump a million flax seeds into a press and make a unit of linseed oil, instead of discarding them.

Firsly, for the most part we wouldn't have vegatable shortenings to work with that's an industrial era invention. Im all for lard though, Its a highly useful product of animals and in some cases a foodsource in and of itself.
