To put miner's helm in use

My friend asked me "does it protect you from falling rocks?", so i thought it could be useful feature.
Nobody uses candles for it, but how about to make them absorb some damage from cave-in?

So they made it finally useful for something, but then pretty much negated that entirely by doubling mine support ranges.
