Why do crafting and sorting work inversely?

Postby cobaltjones » Tue Feb 08, 2011 4:12 am

I'm sure this has been brought up before but I did a quick search and couldn't find anything relevant.

Why does sorting by quality place items in your inventory from highest to lowest, and yet crafting and other shortcut methods (shift+click planting) grab items from the end of the inventory? Seems counter intuitive if you're trying to plant your highest q seeds, or craft the highest q item.

I know some custom clients have worked around this with a "low -> high" scroll sort toggle, but I still think it should be addressed in the actual game somehow.

Is there a reason crafting and other such tasks grab items from the end of your inventory instead of the beginning? Shouldn't it be simple just to flip the way it finds items, or am I missing some essential flaw here?

Although a reversed sorting options would be more than welcome. You can work your way around it.

If you want your, for example seeds, to be sorted in your inventory, or in a bag, one trick is to ...
First drop the stuff you like to use in some other container (other than the one your going to use)* sorted on q (shift+ctrl+MScroll), than use the unsorted/normal multiple item transver (shift+MScroll) to put them back in the original container. The items are now reversed sorted. so from low to high ... or ... there going to be used from high to low.

In case of a seed bag, drop the seeds into your inventory with sorted-on-q order, and then drop them back unsorted into the bag.
Its a hand full ... but it at least works.
