Something to do

Postby Hound » Thu Mar 17, 2011 11:33 pm

While you're waiting for your curiosities to finish. or maybe some way to speed them up? Saving up for Yeomanry right now, and I have absolutely nothing to do. I realize they were trying to decrease the amount of grinding necessary, but without the grinding, there's not a lot for low levels to do. I mean, am I supposed to just log in, set up my curiosities, then log out for like 25+ hours? My friend and I built a house and got some food, got a boat, now we have no reason to play except to refresh the curiosities.

In my opinion, they (the creators) may want to think about still offering at least some LP for tasks, or something. Because while curiosities have made the game more convenient, they have also made it less fun to play, in my opinion.

try using faster curios, like ant soldiers, cone cows, dandelions. work on your settlement or get more food. go explore.

Build a big-ass road. Or try fishing (you can spend hours just looking for a spot.)

WRONG

  • Forage blueberries, kill foxes, and fish for Plaice. Eat these to get more int so you can have more attention in yer brain.
  • Look for more curiosities to fill this new attention.
  • Search for more efficient (higher LP per time per mental weight) curiosities.
  • Run around discovering new things.
  • Work on improving your base - there are tons of things that could be done such as building more storage, gathering supplies you'll need later (like ropes and leather and bone glue)
  • But whatever you do, be online doing *something* so you can raise your Personal Beliefs up to full peaceful/change so you can learn 360% faster.

(You must be online in order for the cooldown on personal beliefs to tick down.)

Sabinati: even the fastest curiosity is like 20 minutes and it takes like five seconds to make them. I already have a million dandelions and I can't fight ants.

Onionfighter: I don't understand, why would I build a road? I don't even know where any places are... And I feel a bit silly fishing when I already don't have enough room for all the food I have.

Phaen: I can't kill foxes, and I have never seen plaice or blueberries despite already having spent quite a long time foraging and looking for fishing spots.
The only way to find new curiosities seems to be by spending LP on new skills, which will make it difficult to save up for Yeomanry.
I found a mountain and a Moor, and I live on the border of two forest types, next to a river. What else is there to discover?

I know I'm being a bit negative, but I'm just saying that I can't really see anything meaningful or entertaining to do. Gathering food when I have plenty, and an infinite source, does not seem like fun. Building stuff and gathering supplies when I don't have even the most basic of protections (yeomanry) seems like it could go badly for me if someone walks by and wants my stuff. Someone already stole my boat, so clearly people are quite willing to take stuff. I just miss being able to log in and work on whatever I wanted to work on, and feel like I was actually getting somewhere/accomplishing something. I play games so that I can turn useless time into time in which I feel like I'm doing something, I don't log in so that I can "kill time."

you don't need to fight ants, you need to raid the hills. raid, then run, wait for them to chase you far enough away for you to run back and raid before they can get to you. they move pretty slow, so it's easy.

what kind of food do you have an infinite source of?

never seen blueberries? i'm pretty sure you only need like 2 or 3 exploration to see blueberries.

well there's a crapton of apple trees nearby and a moor that seems to always have at least one flock of chickens. So I suppose it's not perfectly infinite, but it's more than enough to sustain two people.

I have 3 exploration, I find boatloads of spindly taproots, a few dandelions, and 2 stinging nettles.

You shouldn't be eating apples, 0 FEP food is last resort.

really? even if the only food i have available to me raises stats I don't really want right now? Seems like leaving my stats at ten until I can raise something useful (like intelligence, mainly, or perhaps perception) would be a better plan than just raising my dexterity and agility a bunch (so far the only FEP food I have is Chickens and Rabbits)

At low levels you don't have to worry much about breaking your stats, it can easily be overcome with the diversity bar reduction. But yeah, if I were you I'd scout for heaths and scour them for blueberries to mix with that chicken and rabbits (you wouldn't believe how many int points I got when I only had one blueberry in the bar), you should see *some* at your exploration.
