You wash ashore somewhere in rags. Also I hope the next world has larger shallows that you can sometimes ford, third world rivers are just ridiculous.
    2. To make Swimming actually useful, have players start with the toggle and make the skill increase swim speed to Walk.
    3. Ease up on the stamina drain so new players actually have time to react. (Read: panic) Have it gradually increase or something. A larger, more obvious UI element would help. (Read: breath meter)

So instead of the ironic scenario of only being able to drown after learning how to swim, learning the skill has a clear benefit.

And mani interesting furry animals

I`ve had the same problem.
My char ran into a river because of a lag and now he`s dead...Is there any chance to get my char back? Because this is really fucked up, I mean it wasn`t even my fault.

Hope the devs could help me...

Dont Ever Buy Swimming, Retards

Postby Jackard » Mon Sep 07, 2009 11:11 pm

as if you weren't warned countless times already, swimming even the smallest streams is probably going to kill you. and if that doesnt, the lag will

He's not kidding. Swimming is not functional at the moment. The smallest deep water crossings are 6 tiles across. Anyone with less than FORTY stamina WILL drown in ONE tile. You need at least EIGHTY stamina to have even a CHANCE of crossing water. In other words, treat deep water as acid. It is lethal, instantly lethal.
Surprise.

I have to agree. What where they thinking? Why make it impossible for anyone other than a dozen lifeless losers to ever cross any water?

Rivers are meant as terrain barriers. I think we've been pretty clear about the dangers of them.

Well, sure- but most of the map is blocked off by these spiderweb things. As it stands anyone other than super players has about 40% of the map to share. It'd be different if there where several different river sizes and small, crossable streams and all that. Maybe a third as many rivers as there ended up being.

I still cannot understand how you can put in such a dangerous feature in a game with permadeath and make it so that common sense is out of the window. Really if you assume even very basic skills drowning when crossing a 10 foot large river is impossible unless there is an accident of some kind or its a raging torrent. Warning is not gonna help if you do not even have the time to react once you try it out.
