Change the Locks

If you're still not going to make locked gates permission based, how about:

If the gate is on your claim, you can right click the corner post near it and select "change lock"
Or an option in the adventure menu.

Better than waiting for a day for a battering ram to dry, having to knock down the entire wall, just to change a lock

Agreed. The key system is so horribly flawed at the moment that at least allowing the claim owner SOME recourse would be nice.

maybe you get the first key free like normal, but if you want you can craft a key and padlock then attach to gate to change keys... i dunno. but a new system would be nice

if it's on your claim a right click to "change locks" would be fine, make it take a nugget of metal like a key does if you want, or just make it free.

obviously it would have rules like, either, only the one who owns the claim the gate is on can change it.
or only the person who built it can change the lock.

lol...imaginee the griefing if anyone could change a lock :mrgreen:

imagine how griefers would start targetting gate keepers.
though i understand where this idea is coming from, id prefer how it is now unless i see better options.

just remove keys, none of these half-measures

i hate using keyalts for places without crossroads, they are dumb

I agree with what you're saying, however from what I've seen the devs like the idea of keys existing, so people can steal em etc. I think it's a flawed premise, but whatever.

If they're not going to remove keys, and make them permission based, allowing clear owners of gates to change the locks seems like a reasonable step.

I worked it out today, and in order to bash down my own gate, which I can't close, I am going to be doing 2 damage a strike to it.

At 2500 HP, that's going to take me quite a while
