Pseudo-Claims

Postby Niacide » Mon Apr 11, 2011 12:47 am

A temporary claim that can be placed anywhere, for the purpose of tracking people.

A pseudo claim that will generate scents similar to normal claims, but does not enforce the rules. The pseudo claim is hidden in the same way scents are hidden and people do not need any black skills to interact with stuff on the claim. The claim should not require and resources to build and should be limited to a small area.

All scents generated from a pseudo claim are non-summonable, even theft and vandalism

scents generated from a pseudo claim can only been seen by the owner of the claim, and are still subject to the same stealth*int rules

So confusing. What purpose does this actually serve? How is it a beneficial addition to the game?

Interesting idea but I don't like the constraints you put with it

I thought of it as an extension to just tracking 'criminals'.

If you are out hunting and somebody swipes your boat while fighting a boar, luckily, you were smart enough to place a pseudo claim on it.

NOW you can track your stolen and/or the bastard who stole it, and deliver sweet bloody justice.

SAY, some prick has been cutting down WAY to many trees in your area, put a pseudo claim on some trees. If the bugger returns and DOES shop down the trees, you can now track him down and have a friendly conversation explaining why you just burnt down his entire village.

Actions are amoral in this game though. No one should ever leave scents without first turning on criminal acts. Especially not scents for making changes to seemingly unclaimed land and property.

It isn't like you can get summoned with them. How often have you worried about somebody coming you you house and breaking down the palisade because you wanted to take a shortcut across somebodies needlessly large claim? If a scent is non-sommonable it not really threating to you, assuming you are not being a total duche

a lot of stuff you can do will piss people off regardless of a claim,
people do not need scents to find you, they just need the sommonable to kill you while you are offline

so, you are suggesting that taking somebodies boat while they are standing 3 m away hunting is TOTALLY a-okay, and should have NO POSSIBLE NEGATIVE RETRIBUTION

as well, cutting down every single tree on the other side of a line, for the sole purpose of pissing somebody off, is just peachy?

all a pseudo claim does is inform a person who has been in this spot want what they have done. If somebody was using it to kill random people who did nothing wrong, they could just as easily just walk north till they find somebody.

-edit-

Yes. If you leave a boat on the side of a river to go chase a boar, it is not your boat. If it's unclaimed then it's fair game, no exceptions. Same goes for trees in an area. If you want to secure those trees then claim them. If there is no active claim over them then they don't belong to anyone and are subject to any action.

Also, there are plenty of ways to actually combat these "douche" issues you speak of that don't involve a mystical invisible magic claim area that also requires no materials and can be placed anywhere in the game world.

You can kind of already do this, although it takes more effort. Before you go hunting, put the boat on one of your alt's claims, or maybe a friend's, and then steal it from the claim. You can use your own theft scent to track the item's location.
