Surnames and Kin lists

Postby Onionfighter » Mon Sep 14, 2009 6:11 am

Here are two ideas that I think might improve player interaction:

Surnames: In addition to having your name, your character chooses a surname that is passed on to decedents. This would allow friends to identify each other better.

Kin lists: First, I think kin lists should be inherited. That way, players who are seldom on at the same time do not have to go through the trouble of re-kinning if someone dies.
Second, I think there should be different categories of kin to distinguish between close friends, friends, fellow village members, acquaintances, and enemies. Allowing claims to make this distinction would also be very helpful. An added bonus would be the ability to write notes about each person, but this could be done in rl as well.

I agree with all points and believe they have all been suggested before. Numerous times.

I definitely think this is a great idea. This could be very useful, you never know when one of your kin may have died...

as for the surnames I say we should put them in brackets [] or parentheses () for easy recognition of which is the surname.

I also think that it would be cool if the surnames were randomly generated for each account. Since (besides legal name changing) you don't have the ability to choose your surname when you're born. Which could also lead to another addition to the lawspeaking skill. Maybe with a piece of parchment you can use a Surname Change skill? (The parchment being a legal document changing your name?) The skill would use the parchment and basically destroy it.

e.g. [Baren] Flaschy

Just ideas :)

If surnames were to be implemented, the coming char wipe would be a good time.

Categories of kin? What about the color schemes you can use? Red for enemies, blue for people who have my claim rights, green for other friendly people, white for anyone else. That's what I do.
